Many have questioned Carlos Beltran's toughness, while I will admit his percentage assessments of his health ( by the way he says he's 80-90% now) are comical and he seems to be slow to recover especially for someone in such great shape, last night Beltran showed he's not soft. Clearly his knee and ribs are bothering him from the crash into the wall on Monday night but with the season on the line he went out and did what he could. It wasn't a pretty game for him as he couldn't field two balls which when healthy he would have easily shagged and those missed catches cost the team two early runs. He also went hit less at the plate but the quiet player who shys away from being a vocal leader showed great leadership last night. In playing through his injury he set the example and re-enforced the sense of urgency that was so lacking late last year....But that can be of no concern, not at this point in the season, not when the Mets are clawing for a place in the playoff...
