Philly Buster:
Luis Castillo, who was recently signed to a one-year minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, was hitless in four at-bats in his first spring training game with the team.
Castillo’s deal is a one-year, $414,000 contract. Castillo basically has the rest of spring training to prove that he deserves a spot on the major-league roster, and he has not been off to a good start, especially after coming to camp late yesterday.
Castillo, who batted in the second spot in the lineup in today’s 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, was signed to provide veteran insurance since Chase Utley has been unable to play yet this spring training due to patellar tendinitis.
Castillo – should he make the team – will likely bat in the bottom third of the lineup.
