You can officially count Day 1 of the Luis Castillo Experiment as a total disaster. The Phillies aren’t drawing a lot of attention to the matter, but the fact is that Castillo arrived to camp late and was scratched from the game today. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr said he was surprised that Castillo wasn’t in camp in the morning, as he should have been, but he didn’t make a big deal over the late arrival, stating, “It just gives us one less day to evaluate him.” Castillo said that he was late due to a miscommunication. Whatever the reason is, it’s unacceptable. Castillo is 35 years old, a 15-year veteran, and he should know the importance of showing up ON TIME for his FIRST day with a new team.
