Press Release Provided by the San Diego Padres Media Department: SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today announced they have agreed to terms on a contract extension with infielder/outfielder Mark Kotsay through the 2013 season. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement. “Mark provides versatility and a very good late-game at-bat,” said Byrnes. “He brings invaluable leadership to our club and has become one of the key members of our team.” Kotsay, 36, has hit .275 (28-for-102) with six doubles, one home run, nine RBI and six runs scored for the Padres this year, including a .290 (9-for-31) mark as a pinch-hitter. The left-handed hitter has made 22 starts in the field for San Diego, including 15 in left field, five in right field and two at first base.
