Hanley Ramirez shined earlier this month in a three-game series against his former club. The Los Angeles Dodgers could use a repeat of that performance after being swept at home.
Ramirez and the Dodgers look to get back on track as they open another three-game set against the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
The Dodgers (67-58) fell out of the top spot in the NL West after a three-game sweep by first-place San Francisco to start the week. Los Angeles scored six runs in the series after totaling 64 while winning eight of their previous 11.
Though Ramirez had a solo homer and two RBIs against the Giants, he went 3 for 11 after batting .395 and driving in 14 runs in his previous 10 contests.
Acquired from Miami on July 25, Ramirez was 6 for 13 with five RBIs in his first series against his former club Aug. 10-12, helping Los Angeles take two of three. The Dodgers have won five of the last seven meetings with the Marlins (57-69), and they'll look to continue that domination behind...
BEST OF MAXIM
The smile is back -- and just in time for the Dodgers.
When Hanley Ramirez was playing well, getting respect and enjoying being a Florida Marlin, it was a smile that could light up an entire ballpark -- even one as dreary as Sun Life Stadium in Miami. He won the National League batting title in 2009, hitting .342 with 106 RBI and 101 runs scored. He was the N.L. Rookie of the Year...
The season is officially over for Jerry Hairston Jr., the Dodgers utility player extraordinaire.
The Dodgers announced after Wednesdays game that Hairston will have surgery on his left hip sometime in the next two weeks.
Hairston has been on the disabled list since Aug. 13 with what the Dodgers initially called an inflamed hip. He did not respond to an anti-inflammatory injection...
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox are close to completing to completing a deal that would send Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers, according to multiple sources. There are two proposed mega deals on the table right now, things are serious, and a deal could be done today. The first proposed deal would send Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez to the Dodgers. The other is a reported...
GO WEST, YOUNG MAN
The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed Boston Red Sox standout first baseman Adrian Gonzalez off waivers, a possible first step in a Boston-L.A. mega-deal.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Andre Ethier was 4 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs, Hanley Ramirez and Juan Rivera also went deep against Nathan Eovaldi in his return to Dodger Stadium, and Los Angeles went on to beat the Miami Marlins on 11-4 on Friday night.
Rivera started at first base instead of James Loney, who was pulled from manager Don Mattingly's original lineup after word spread...
As rumors surfaced about a possible deal between the Red Sox and Dodgers on Friday evening, almost everyone knew who Boston would be sending away if a trade happened. Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett were both claimed off trade waivers, and reports soon arose that Carl Crawford and Nick Punto were also in the mix. Little was said about who the Dodgers would be sending back, but it...
It's being reported both Adrian Gonzalez and the Dodger's James Loney are being held out of their respective lineups tonight. That's certainly not a coincidence.
Expect reports of this deal being completed to be rolling in shortly.
ESPN has some details:
The Dodgers and Red Sox are closing in on a deal that would send Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford...
The Los Angeles Dodgers quest to solidify a playoff spot continues, as the team has placed (and won) a waivers claim for 1B Adrian Gonzalez and starting pitcher Josh Beckett, both current disgruntled members of the Boston Red Sox. By claiming the two players, the Dodgers can open up trade talks with the Red Sox [...]
It may be easy to figure out why the Dodgers rolled over and lost three straight to the Giants this week – the good Dodgers were mediocre and the mediocre ones were simply poor. Meanwhile, the Giants were just darn good.
Matt Kemp was just 2 for 12 in the three game series versus the Giants. He is hitting .179 over his last 10 games.
The Giants certainly didn’t look like a...
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, former co-stars of That 70s Show, led a group of A-list celebrities in attendance at Dodger Stadium for Wednesday night's Los Angeles Dodgers game against the San Francisco Giants.
Mila wore a Dodgers jersey while Ashton wore a Dodgers cap as they sat in the front row.
NBA Hall-of-Fame coach Pat Riley was also in attendance, along with Wheel...
Matt Cain pitched seven strong innings, Joaquin Arias homered and drove in a career-high five runs, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 on Wednesday night to extend their NL West lead to 21/2 games with their first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium in five years.
The Giants arrived in Los Angeles trailing the Dodgers by a half-game and they leave with...
The Dodgers are on the verge of acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto from the Red Sox.
I'm on the road, but I'm going to give a quick analysis:
The Dodgers need a guy like Gonzalez. They could do without Beckett and Crawford and no one in their right mind "needs" Punto.
Some rumored players heading to Boston...
