Found June 22, 2013 on Padres Public:
Yesterday I had the good fortune of driving around aimlessly for the better part of an hour. I say good fortune because it put me in the window of Darren Smith’s show (12-3 pm on the Mighty 1090) which I don’t get to listen to nearly enough. I was excited to hear Darren interview Matt Vasgersian who, incidentally, was kind enough to take part in a live chat with us here at Padres Public last week. As Darren and Matty V finished discussing the peculiarly small size of Scott Kaplan’s head and the horse-like appearance of Billy Ray Smith they broke into a discussion about Padres Public and the live chat that occurred here last week. Whoa . . . From the mouth of Matt Vasgersian: There is a . . . uh . . . actually, fantastic blog . . . Matty V says other things as well but allow me to bask in that compliment for awhile. A compliment like that completely justifies the times I’ve woken up at 4:30 AM to write about the sacrificial rites of the Aztec and the naming rights to my daughters’ pe...

Padres Rumors: Edinson Volquez Trade Market Heating Up

The Padres, for once, are not in a position to sell, but that won't stop teams from poking around and seeing if any players are available. The Padres are right in the thick of things in the bunched up NL West. They are only 3.5 games out of first in their division, but are in third place, behind the Giants and Diamondbacks. Their pitcher Edinson Volquez is garnering a lot of...

Padres And The Expectation Game

“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure. “ - Mark Twain As I sit here and write this the Padres are exactly at .500, 3 games back of 1st, and are about to start a 4-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jason Marquis is starting and I’ll likely have to update this opening paragraph to account for whatever it is he does. But more...

Zombies Throw Out First Pitch At Padres Game

College night at Petco Park quickly took a weird turn when the catcher receiving the first pitch turned out to be a day walker.  Numerous folks dressed up like the walking dead then proceeded to do what zombies do: walk around like zombies.  Don’t worry, this isn’t the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, just another fun trick teams do to get fans excited about being at the...

Pedro Ciriaco Dominating In San Diego Role

(AP Photo/Lenny Ignelzi)You had to figure this would happen. Former Yankee-Killer Pedro Ciriaco was shipped from the Red Sox to the Padres recently for—essentially— a bag o' balls. Ciriaco has been on fire since heading to the not-so-friendly confines of PETCO Park. Given a chance to play regularly due to the injury to starting SS Everth Carbrera, Pedro is 7 for 17 in brown...
