Gary Matthews Jr 5Originally uploaded by Michael G. BaronThe Gary Matthews Jr experiment is finally over, Matthews was going to have to get off to a hot start to negate what was viewed by many fans as an unpopular, if not unnecessary trade.Matthews was given a solid chance, he was the opening day starter in center field and remained in the line-up for the first five days of the season, even off the bench he was given every opportunity to succeed but the bottom line is that it just didn't work.In all fairness to the organization, I have no problem with the trade, when Beltran went down they needed to have a back-up plan for center field. Remember Angel Pagan coming into the season looked more like Endy Chavez then a starter and no one knew if he'd mature passed all the mental errors.Brian Stokes is a solid reliever but he is inconsistent at times and once he was out of options he would have handcuffed the team in terms of roster decisions. My only issue with the entire episode...
