Found October 07, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
Among the Mets’ top highlights of 2012 was R.A. Dickey becoming the first pitcher to win 20 games for the team in over two decades and of course Johan Santana’s No-Hitter on June 1st.But there were plenty more nice moments we’ll take away from 2012 besides those two, and this Mets video does a nice job of putting them all together. Enjoy!Starting on Monday we begin to break down the 2012 season from every angle and then later in the week we’ll begin to shift into 2013 mode which promises to be anything but boring.

Mets Minors: Top 20 role player rankings – Collin McHugh to Logan Verrett

I did a piece last week on the Top 20 Blue Chip Prospects in the New York Met system.  I wrote about Zack Wheeler, Wilmer Flores and Jeurys Familia but avoided talking about a number of solid players who could, in every likelihood, still help the franchise.  Today’s list is the top 20 prospects who lack the same ceilings as the blue chippers.Collin McHugh, SP: McHugh is the...

If Mets need a new poster child, is Matt Harvey it?

The buzz on the street is that the Mets, still strapped for cash and likely to bleed money for another season or two might need to part ways with their beloved 3B.  As David Wright would leave Flushing for a new franchise, this Met fan wonders, who the Mets will bill as the great hope of the team?  If not Wright, then who?Ike Davis seems to be an option.  He’s clean cut, and...

Is A Longterm Deal For Wright In Mets’ Best Interest?

Last week in one of our MMO Roundtable posts, I posed the question to our staff about whether David Wright would be back in a Mets uniform next season. Only one out of the seventeen who replied said Wright wouldn’t be back. Almost all of them made comments that Sandy Alderson has to do “whatever it takes”, or that this was “a no-brainer”.It was a landslide. Mets fans...

Mets Flagship Station WFAN Switching From AM To FM

Richard Sandomir of the New York Times is reporting that Mets flagship station WFAN could be switching from 660 AM to 101.9 FM in the coming months. It looks like that for the time being they will be broadcasting in simulcast on both stations, but that could change once the majority of the listenership gets used to the idea. This could shutout many listeners on the outskirts of the...

Mets could re-sign David Wright and RA Dickey by World Series

The New York Mets would like to retain third basemen David Wright and pitcher R.A. Dickey for years to come. The team is working on re-signing the two to multi-year deals before their current contracts expire after the 2013 season. Wright has long been considered a cornerstone of the Mets. He is believed to be seeking a long term deal of seven years or more worth $125 million. Wright...

Should Mets revisit last year’s David Wright-Peter Bourjos rumor?

In November of last year there was a rumor of a Mets-Angels trade involving David Wright. As with most rumors, it’s hard to say if there were actual talks between the two teams or if it was something created by a drunken journalist in a bar or a blogger in his mom’s basement. Most versions had the Mets acquiring Peter Bourjos, along with another player or two.Mets fans were...

Mets Owners Looking To Refinance SNY Loan To Generate More Cash

In a report for the New York Times, Richard Sandomir says the Mets are talking to banks in an effort to raise more cash so to be able to reorganize their debt.According to Sandomir, the Mets could refinance SNY’s $450 million loan and then borrow more to repay some of the team’s debt and pick up some extra money that will be used to pay for day-to-day operations of the team...

Mets Could Use A Few Angels In The Outfield

With so many items on the Mets to-do list this offseason, their longest such list in nearly a decade, you’ll get few arguments that improving the outfield would be paramount after addressing the R.A. Dickey and David Wright situations. The Mets will not be the only team spanning the terrain for available outfielders. Division rivals like Philadelphia have made their intentions...

Heyman backs Dickey for NL Cy Young

In a post to CBS Sportsline.com, MLB reporter Jon Heyman lists who he believes should bring home some hardware for their 2012 campaigns. When speaking about the should-be winner of the National League Cy Young Award, Heyman stated the following about New York Mets starter, R.A. Dickey:“[R.A. Dickey] led the league in strikeouts, but most impressively managed to go 20-6 for the...

MMO Minors Mailbag: Will Vegas Affect Pitchers?

Rich asks…What do you think the effect will be on our prospects moving from Buffalo to Las Vegas? I read that the climate could be bad for our pitchers and I’m concerned about Zack Wheeler. I know that you talk to these players a lot and was wondering what you felt about this move? Was this a bad thing for us or nothing to worry about?Sean replies…To first address was the move...

Remembering the 1962 Mets

I was a junior at Richmond Hill High School in 1962 and I was quite excited that Queens was getting its own baseball team. I grew up a Dodger fan and had my first slap of reality when the trucks left town.It would have been hard enough to root for the Giants, but they left too. And becoming a Yankees fan was simply not an option. A friend of mine told me that the Mets were holding...

The Mets off-season looks grim once again

The Mets have a long list of things to do this off-season, one that really begins and ends with R.A. Dickey and David Wright. I honestly can not believe that they have some many issues to address. I thought this season would be one where we found some solutions going forward. Instead we found that we don’ t really have much on the current roster who will be here in the future...
