Yesterday on Twitter, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick said: “Sandy Alderson has confirmed the Mets are open to bringing back Chris Young. It would likely be a minor league deal.” Last month on a conference call with reporters, Alderson said he had recently met with Young in San Diego, adding, “He’s the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances.” Young talked to MLB.com in December and said he expects to be ready for Spring Training, despite having major shoulder surgery last May Young, 32, made just four starts for the Mets in 2011. He went 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings. Brian Erni: The best part of Young’s brief 2011 season is how he kept runners off base, limiting hitters to just 12 hits and 11 walks in 24 innings: good for a 0.96 WHIP. It is even more impressive when you considering half of those starts came against the left-handed heavy Phillies.
