Found March 29, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
Confirming what was speculated earlier, the Mets have officially announced that they have optioned 2B/SS Jordanny Valdespin to the minor leagues along with OF Adam Loewen. LHP Garrett Olson, C Lucas May, C Rob Johnson and OF Matt den Dekker. All are expected to start the season with Triple-A Buffalo. Of the group, only Valdespin spent time with the Bisons last season. The infielder was promoted to the Herd on August 10 and hit .280 (30-107) with two home runs, nine RBI and four stolen bases in 27 games with Buffalo. In 107 games with Double-A Binghamton, the 24-year old hit .297 (120-404) with 24 doubles, 15 home runs, 51 RBI and 33 stolen bases. Yesterday, Sandy Alderson said Valdespin would play a variety of positions at Buffalo. “He’s got some real talent. He can do a lot of things that some of our other players cannot. He can run. He can play any of the positions up the middle so he has great versatility. He can be a very valuable player to us. I don’t think he’s going to be on...

Bay to Undergo an Emergency Operation

The Mets are flying Jason Bay to New York to undergo an emergency operation at the Hospital for Special Surgeries. Ever since Jason signed with the Mets 2 seasons ago, everyone has wondered, "What’s wrong with this guy?" The All Star-turned-albatross has mystified baseball experts and fans alike with his hideous decline in production. No one questions his work ethic or...

Mets Opening Day Roster just about set

If you trust Adam Rubin of ESPN New York and his sources, then the Mets Opening Day roster picture is quickly coming into focus. Rubin says that as long as Byrdak doesn’t somehow recover from knee surgery in time to make the roster, the Mets will start out with Daniel Herrera as the lefty specialist in the bullpen. Although it has been reported before that Herrera was not an option...

The curious case of Danny Herrera

Adam Rubin reported yesterday that Daniel Herrera is most likely going to be given a spot in the bullpen for Opening Day. Tim Byrdak is recovering from knee surgery, but he’s expected only to miss  a couple games. To this point in Spring Training, Herrera has thrown 6.1 innings, posting a 1.42 ERA with two walks and one strikeout. So when Byrdak comes back, the Mets are going...

Zimmerman Says Mets Should Re-sign Wright; Johnson Questions Team’s Direction

As we all know, David Wright’s contract technically ends this year (However, there is a option for 2013).  Speaking of Wright’s contract, Mike Puma of the New York Post spoke with Nationals 3rd Basemen Ryan Zimmerman about Wright’s contract with the Mets.  Zimmerman told Puma that the Mets should resign David Wright. “He enjoys being here.  They gave him an opportunity...

Mets Curse? Jason Bay The Modern Day Roberto Alomar?

Throughout spring training, I have heard interviews and read many articles about Jason Bay and his approach to hitting. Every Mets fan, let alone baseball fan knows of Bay's woes. For someone who was a solid power hitter before joining the Mets, with the Mets he has been more of a power outage. This spring Bay is trying to simplify his approach, and get back to his hitting basics...

Delcos: Pelfrey arguably most important Met.

Yes, I know it was only one game after so many bad ones, but it was encouraging to watch Mike Pelfrey last night against Houston. One run on three hits in 6.1 innings. I’ll take that every time. PELFREY: Tired of seeing this perplexed look. By his own admission, Pelfrey said this could be a make-or-break season for him. If he has another one like last year, he could see the Mets...

Mets To Announce 2012 Minor League Rosters

Either today or tomorrow the Mets are extremely likely, according to sources, to announce the 2012 minor league rosters for each of the long-season teams. Competition has been ferocious for all four teams, particularly for the most coveted prizes, a spot on one of the pitching staffs for each of the long-season clubs. Over-crowding, combined with ho-hum performances necessitated...

Collins believes Duda is going to be a dynamic talent

Add Terry Collins to the list of people close to the game who are coming up with a somewhat unanimous opinion about New York Mets rightfielder Lucas Duda.   The 26-year-old hit his 4th homer Grapefruit League homer against the Braves yesterday and has put together quite an impressive Spring. #bbpBox_184980845893922816 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_184980845893922816...

Pelfrey's situation

Photo by Michael BaronAccording to Andy Martino of the Daily News Mike Pelfrey was discussed as a candidate to lose his roster spot. In five spring training games Pelfrey has pitched to an 8.59 ERA and that's including the last start which may have saved his job despite being against a AAAA line-up. I'm at the point with Pelfrey that I no longer trust him and just want to...

2012 Organizational Rankings: #20 – New York Mets

Dave Cameron laid out the methodology behind the rankings last Friday. Remember that the grading scale for each category is 20-80, with 50 representing league average. 2012 Organizational Rankings #30 – Baltimore #29 – Houston #28 – Oakland #27 – Pittsburgh #26 – San Diego #25 – Minnesota #24 – Chicago White Sox #23 – Seattle #22 – Kansas City #21 – Cleveland...

Ramblings About Success And Some Reminiscing

Every team has to have a number of components in order to brew a culture of winning and unity that is found in most legitimate contenders. The token ace, power bat, golden glove, and bullpen leader are a given, but just because you follow the directions of a paint by numbers doesn’t mean it will be a masterpiece. Realistically there are more cogs in the machine than we could...

A Soft Creamy Middle

Watching Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Nationals reminded me of what's going to ultimately take this team down. It isn't going to be like past years where the starting pitching got us bludgeoned to death (the rotation will be fine outside of Pelfrey's fifth start), or the lack of hitting asphyxiated us (and I gotta say that Lucas Duda is growing on me). Nope, this defense...
