2012 TOPPS HERITAGE CHRIS SCHWINDEN So I was going to tell you all about the 2012 Topps Heritage set. How it’s printed on sturdy throwback non-glossy stock, practically begging you to say “Got it, got it, got it, need it” while you thumb through a stack. How cards numbered 426 through 500 in the set are short printed, in tribute to the hard-to-find high-number series in the 1963 set. How it recreates some of the obscure errors and variations of the original 1963 set by introducing equally obscure analogues. (Would you prefer a Ryan Madson team name in yellow, or a Ryan Madson team name in black? Before you answer, you should know that the black version will set you back 100 bills.) But really all of that detail is trumped by one simple fact: There are three Chris Schwinden rookie cards in the set (card numbers 191, 204, and 362). Yes, three. That is just great gobs of Schwinden. It is enough Schwinden to seriously fuzz your schnizz up. It’s ‘S chwindenful! ‘S marvelous! T...

Why Jason Bay Isn't Going Anywhere

Jason Bay may be an asset in left field, but he's become a total liability at the plate and now finds the fan base having completely turned its back on him. Any optimism generated by his strong close to the 2011 season, has now been demolished by his 3 for 16 start this year. Bay's pitch selection has seen him repetitively watch balls pitched right down the pipe, yet swing...

Davis is being rested due to his Valley Fever, and is expected to play tomorrow. Note to Thole: Defense Wins Championships

I am pretty disgusted with Josh Thole right now, and there is one reason why — defense. I was one of the unfortunate people to be inside the prison known at Citifield today to witness what looked to be a solid Johan Santana versus Stephen Strasburg match-up. Now, the Mets had a solid approach against Strasburg early, but after squandering a first inning opportunity, they didn...

Time to Consider Releasing Jason Bay

The obvious issue with Jason Bay is the .158 batting average glares from the scoreboard. Even more concerning is the process he’s employed to get to this point. Throughout the spring and first week of the season, Bay has looked confused and anemic at the plate. Very few of his plate appearances are of quality. Even left handers haven’t been a tonic for his slump. His first...

News: David Wright Scratched

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, David Wright has been scratched from tonight's lineup due to jammed right pinkie and may miss tomorrow afternoon's game as well. Here is the new starting lineup for tonight's game with the Nationals. 1. Ruben Tejada SS2. Ronny Cedeno 3B3. Daniel Murphy 2B4. Jason Bay LF5. Lucas Duda RF6. Just Turner 1B7. Scott Hairston...

The Mets We Know And Love

You see, you might think that Mets fans overreact to one loss after starting the season 4-0. And you might be right. It's the same way Mets fans overreact to starting the season 4-0. We were excited ... as we should have been. But now it all comes crashing down. And we're down in the dumps. As we should be.You might not understand this phenomenon. But when, in the span of...

From Left Field: Tough Series For Larry Vanover, More Replay Needed?

Through the first six games, the umpiring in the games the Mets have played has been rather suspect. But we really saw it take a turn for the worse this series against the Nationals. Larry Vanover, a 21-year MLB veteran umpire, made a few key questionable calls in this series. The first actually benefitted the Mets when Adam LaRoche was called out at second base in the first game...

Nationals @ Mets 1:10 PM EDT: Battle of the Aces

Johan Santana and the New York Mets will face off against Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals today in search of a rubber game win. First pitch will be at 1:10 PM EDT. Santana looked great in his opening day start. His fastball was alive, and his change-up was working very well. Santana has prepared to throw 95 pitches today, but with rain on the forecast, he should be...

David Wright has a small fracture right pinkey finger injury

After the game was over. It was announced by the Mets that David Wright has a small fracture right pinkey finger injury. His finger has been splint and taped so he can return to baseball activities. He is listed day to day. Keep an eye on this injury since I don't trust the Mets management when it comes to injured players.

MMO Fair or Foul: December 6, 2011 – A Day That Will Live In Mets Infamy?

Here’s an interesting take on why the Mets are off to a 4-0 start as written by SprungOnSports. Read on and then tell us what if you agree or disagree. On December 6, 2011, Mets GM Sandy Alderson signed relievers Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch and acquired Ramon Ramirez along with CF Andres Torres from the Giants for Angel Pagan. Alderson is one of the smartest men in baseball...

Game Recap: Mets 4, Nationals 3

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 4-3 tonight. The Mets have now won the first four games of the season, and find themselves on top of the NL East with a record of 4-0. The Mets also have the best overall record in the MLB. Mike Pelfrey really impressed me tonight. He wasn’t dominant, nor was he ever in a rhythm. Pelfrey always has trouble pitching...

Mets 4, Nationals 3

Daniel Murphy singled home the winning run in the ninth inning and the undefeated New York Mets took advantage of a throwing error by reliever Henry Rodriguez to beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Monday night. Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit his first major league homer for the Mets, who are 4-0 for the first time since 2007. Coming off a surprising three-game sweep of Atlanta to start...

We’re A Better Team Than People Give Us Credit For

Don’t look now, but the Mets are a win Tuesday away from matching the best start in franchise history — established by the 1985 edition, which opened 5-0. “Everybody is excited about the start,” Terry Collins said after the Mets beat the Washington Nationals, 4-3, Monday night at Citi Field on Daniel Murphy’s walk-off RBI single. “We talked about it in the first...

Ron Darling Become a New York Star Post-Playing Days

Both Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez marveled at the prescient Ron Darling last night. In the first inning, Darling had noted how it would be a good time for Mets starter Mike Pelfrey to fake a pickoff throw to third and first in order to possibly get Ryan Zimmerman starting too early on the 3-2 count. As if on cue, Pelfrey did just that. Later in the game, Darling noted how the poor...

Mets Farm Report: 4/12/12

BUFFALO BISONS AAA The Bisons got corralled Thursday afternoon by a score of 7-2 at the hands of the SWB Yankees in Buffalo. A three-run second off Chris Schwinden, and a three-run seventh off Jeff Stevens would provide the Yankees with all the scoring they would need, and they added a solo homer by Steve Pearce off Daniel Herrera in the fifth. Schwinden who struggled mightily with...
