Earlier today, the Mets placed left fielder Jason Bay on the 15-day DL. The hits keep on coming, as the team has also placed starter Mike Pelfrey on the DL with swelling in his right elbow.
Pelfrey really hasn't lived up to the high expectations placed on him by the New York media after being drafted ninth overall in the 2005 draft. That, of course, was the loaded draft that saw Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, Jordan Zimmermann, Ryan Braun, Ricky Romero, and Troy Tulowitzki drafted before Pelfrey, and Cameron Maybin, Andrew McCutchen, and Jay Bruce drafted in the three picks following Pelfrey.
For his career, Pelfrey has a 4.36 ERA in nearly 900 career innings. He's only struck out 5.08 batters per nine innings, while walking 3.19. The Mets expected an ace performance out of Pelfrey after he blazed through the minors, only throwing 176 1/3 innings there. However, he's given them more of the production of a fourth starter, showing a lack of ability to miss bats, but eating i...

A bad afternoon for the Mets has only gotten worse. Mike Pelfrey will join Jason Bay on the disabled list, after an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery this morning revealed inflammation in his right elbow.
Pelfrey went to the hospital for a preliminary examination after experiencing a “grab” in his elbow at the start of each inning during his last start. He believed...

As Jason Bay and Mike Pelfrey hit the DL, Mets’ fans say so what?
Just as soon as the Mets put Jason Bay (ribs) and Mike Pelfrey (elbow) on the disabled list, the Mets go ahead and win two straight games over the Miami Marlins while also ruining the Jose Reyes homecoming in the process.
Everything is right in the world, correct?
Not so fast.
I’d like to think that the the old saying “You don’t know how much you miss something until it’s...
Worst Case Scenario: Pelfrey To Have Tommy John Surgery
We’ve just been informed that Mike Pelfrey will undergo Tommy John Surgery on his right elbow, and miss the remainder of the season.
His recovery and return could be anywhere between 12 and 18 months depending on how the elbow responds and any setbacks. Pelfrey does have youth on his side which could bode well for him.
Pelfrey was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday...
Mike Pelfrey is going to have Tommy John surgery
Terry Collins just announced in his post-game interview that Mike Pelfrey is going to have Tommy John surgery. This is terrible news. Mike Pelfrey has pitched very well this season. Unfortunately, Big Pelf will be out for the season. It’s not obscene to think that Big Pelf has thrown his last pitch as a New York Met.
Pelfrey will visit Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham tomorrow....
Pelfrey to get Tommy John surgery
Another pitcher has gotten bit by the Tommy John bug: Mets starter Mike Pelfrey, who was placed on the DL on Tuesday with a sore elbow. The news was shared by Mets manager Terry Collins today after the Mets' 3-2 win over the Marlins.
With Pelfrey due to hit his final year of arbitration after this season, and likely to make at least $6 million, it's safe to assume that his...

Mets' Pelfrey goes on disabled list
New York Mets right-handed pitcher Mike Pelfrey was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday, after an MRI revealed swelling in his right elbow. Mets put RHP Pelfrey, LF Bay on disabled list
The New York Mets have put starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey and left fielder Jason Bay on the 15-day disabled list.
The Mets made the moves before Tuesday night's game against Miami.
Pelfrey is sidelined with inflammation in his right elbow. But Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says the team hasn't ruled out a torn ligament, and says Pelfrey will get a second opinion.

The Hole Gets Deeper for New York Mets; Injuries Mounting
Injuries beginning to mount? Mike Pelfrey has now joined Jason Bay on the DL.
The New York Mets seem to be stuck in a hole they can’t dig themselves out of. This is mostly due to three injuries in the past 48 hours and players who aren’t living up to their potential.
Starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey’s latest injury may be the biggest blow to the Mets. It looks like he’s...

Mets place Bay and Pelfrey on disabled list
A day that was supposed center around Jose Reyes' return to Citi Field quickly assumed a familiar plotline from Reyes' days in New York. Prior to eking out a 2-1 win over the Florida Marlins, the Mets placed two players on the disabled list with significant injuries, casting uncertainty over their roster for the next few weeks. The Mets first put Jason Bay on the DL with...
What the Loss of Pelfrey, Bay and Cedeno in 24 hours to the DL means
The Mets announced today that Jason Bay was going on the Disabled list with cracked rib. This is a blow to the Mets lineup, especially with Bay showing signs of starting to produce with more regularity. In a surprising move the Mets also announced that starter Mike Pelfrey has also been placed on the DL. The Mets are saying that the move is due to elbow pain, but rumors are circulating...
3 Up & 3 Down: The San Francisco Treat Edition
The Mets just wound up a four game weekend wrap-around series with the San Francisco Giants, winning only one of the four games. Sunday’s edition of Rain Out Theater, prompted a double-header on Monday night, with the Giants sweeping both games from the Mets. One would think with 36 plus innings of baseball played between these teams, 3 Ups would be easy, but the Mets were something...
The Enemy Looks Ridiculous
Well this just about brings it home, so to speak. Doesn't it?
It promised to be an eventful day, but we just didn't know how eventful. We awoke to "Jose Reyes Day" with Jason Bay hitting the disabled list with a fractured rib which he accrued by flailing and missing a fly ball. This we sort of expected. But then we find out that Mike Pelfrey (the other boo twin...
