According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, a baseball source says the Mets could have both David Wright and R.A. Dickey agreeing to sign extensions with the Mets by the start of the World Series. The Mets general manager made it clear earlier this week a resolution on both players’ futures could come quickly. A baseball source with knowledge of the team’s thinking was more specific yesterday, saying it’s conceivable Wright and Dickey will have new deals in place, at least in principle, by the time the World Series begins later this month. As for the sizes of these deals, agents have speculated Wright should fetch at minimum a seven to eight year deal worth $125-$150 million, while Dickey could garner a three year deal worth $40-50 million. The Mets hold club options on both Wright ($16 million  and Dickey ($5 million )for 2013, but both have said they intend to test free agency after the conclusion of the 2013 season if extensions cannot be reached. Dickey also added that he consider...

Have We Seen David Wright’s Final Game In A Mets Uniform?

Until something gets done, the David Wright situation will to be the central theme on Mets blogs everywhere for this entire offseason. I wanted to get things started by asking our staff the following most important question for the Mets moving forward.Have we seen David Wright’s final game in a Mets uniform? Mitch: No. The reason why the Mets won’t be spending much in free...

Cy Young final watch

The dust has settled, and the baseball season is over.  Tomorrow, we will see one-game playoffs in the Wild Card for the first time.  As a bow is put on the 2012 season, I present my final Cy Young watch.  This is how I would fill out the ballet No. 1 – No.5 in each league.  American League1)    Jered Weaver, LAA, 20-5, 2.81 ERA, 142 K, 1.02 WHIP2...

Heyman backs Dickey for NL Cy Young

In a post to CBS Sportsline.com, MLB reporter Jon Heyman lists who he believes should bring home some hardware for their 2012 campaigns. When speaking about the should-be winner of the National League Cy Young Award, Heyman stated the following about New York Mets starter, R.A. Dickey:“[R.A. Dickey] led the league in strikeouts, but most impressively managed to go 20-6 for the...

Is extending Wright the right move...

Photo by Michael BaronThe face of the franchise, the player with all of the team's offensive records and probably the rarest of all accomplishments in today's game, an entire career with one team. With all that said, is it the right move for this organization to re-sign David Wright to a long term contract. Despite the Madoff scandal being behind them, the organization has...

Is A Longterm Deal For Wright In Mets’ Best Interest?

Last week in one of our MMO Roundtable posts, I posed the question to our staff about whether David Wright would be back in a Mets uniform next season. Only one out of the seventeen who replied said Wright wouldn’t be back. Almost all of them made comments that Sandy Alderson has to do “whatever it takes”, or that this was “a no-brainer”.It was a landslide. Mets fans...

First things first, the Mets need to re-sign David Wright

Photo Taken by Michael BaronWith the off-season upon us, the New York Mets front-office can now begin the daunting task of trying to turn this club into a contender.  Honestly, I don’t see that happening in one off-season.  The club needs a new outfield, help in the pen, a starting catcher, Major League caliber players on its bench, and could even use another arm in the rotation...

Mets Rumors: Mets could re-sign David Wright and RA Dickey by World Series

The New York Mets would like to retain third basemen David Wright and pitcher R.A. Dickey for years to come. The team is working on re-signing the two to multi-year deals before their current contracts expire after the 2013 season. Wright has long been considered a cornerstone of the Mets. He is believed to be [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links...

Should Mets revisit last year’s David Wright-Peter Bourjos rumor?

In November of last year there was a rumor of a Mets-Angels trade involving David Wright. As with most rumors, it’s hard to say if there were actual talks between the two teams or if it was something created by a drunken journalist in a bar or a blogger in his mom’s basement. Most versions had the Mets acquiring Peter Bourjos, along with another player or two.Mets fans were...

Mets 2012 Highlights Video

Among the Mets’ top highlights of 2012 was R.A. Dickey becoming the first pitcher to win 20 games for the team in over two decades and of course Johan Santana’s No-Hitter on June 1st.But there were plenty more nice moments we’ll take away from 2012 besides those two, and this Mets video does a nice job of putting them all together. Enjoy!Starting on Monday we begin to break...

Walk on the Left Side: Ruben Tejada Makes a Name for Himself

David Wright and Ruben Tejada seem more than comfortable working together after the departure of Jose Reyes Welcome to our off-season, my Mets faithful!  I realize there is still post-season baseball to be played (how ’bout those A’s, huh?) but for the Kings of Queens, the off-field work is already starting.  As we at the Daily Stache begin the long wait until February 13...

If Mets need a new poster child, is Matt Harvey it?

The buzz on the street is that the Mets, still strapped for cash and likely to bleed money for another season or two might need to part ways with their beloved 3B.  As David Wright would leave Flushing for a new franchise, this Met fan wonders, who the Mets will bill as the great hope of the team?  If not Wright, then who?Ike Davis seems to be an option.  He’s clean cut, and...

Stop Dragging My Heart Around…

Adam Rubin at ESPN New York again points out why it’s hard to fathom the Mets making any considerable moves of note in light of the undeniable facts of their 2013 payroll obligations:These six players alone total $79.5 million:Santana $25.5 million + $5.5 million buyout = $31 millionBay $16 million + $3 million buyout = $19 millionDavid Wright $15 millionFrank Francisco $6.5...

Mets Could Use A Few Angels In The Outfield

With so many items on the Mets to-do list this offseason, their longest such list in nearly a decade, you’ll get few arguments that improving the outfield would be paramount after addressing the R.A. Dickey and David Wright situations. The Mets will not be the only team spanning the terrain for available outfielders. Division rivals like Philadelphia have made their intentions...
