Mets Merized Online:
The Mets designated left-hander Garrett Olson for assignment to make room for on the roster for Johan Santana who was officially activated from the DL.
The move leaves Josh Edgin as the only lefty reliever in the bullpen.
Olson was charged with four runs while recording only one out in his lone appearance.

In simple terms, Santana did not have a successful return to the mound in a 9-3 loss to the Braves on Saturday evening.
Well, Johan Santana made his return to the mound on Saturday evening to the tune of a broken guitar, to be nice about it. He was not technically hit hard, but he was hit frequently as a plethora of singles led to a plethora of runs. Santana lasted just...
With the decline of 2012 New York Mets, many fans have rightfully reset their sights on what the future holds. Even prior to the trade deadline, when there was still an outside chance of the team turning its free fall around, some fans sought additions for next season, 2014 and beyond. The notion is sound, but there are multiple situations impeding such moves. First and foremost...
During the last couple of seasons of Omar Minaya’s tenure, the joke went that the Mets had turned into the Kremlin when discussing injuries. Every time a player was injured, it started off as day-to-day and then somehow turned into a season-ending injury, much like how Soviet leaders would start off with a cold and end up dead.
The Mets under Sandy Alderson promised to be more...
Mets News and Notes:
Johan Santana insisted his right ankle and pitching shoulder were healthy after he only recorded four outs, matching his shortest career start, which happened to be in Atlanta in April. The Braves beat the Mets, 9-3, Saturday at Citi Field. The Mets (54-60) dropped a season-worst six games under .500. Santana was charged with eight runs, two shy of his career...
Comparing Johan Santana to Mike Hampton sounds rather stupid at first glance. First of all, Mike Hampton at his best was never as good as Johan Santana was at his best. But Hampton was pretty darn good in his hay days. Both were rather slight, left-handed pitchers. Hampton was 5'10, 185. Santana is 6'0, 200. Both received huge contracts after their great years and both ran...
Saturday night, during the New York Mets 9-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves, starter Johan Santana allowed eight runs in just 1 1/3 innings — matching the shortest start of his career – in his first start since coming off the disabled list.
For those of us hoping a trip to the DL would allow Johan to return to his pre-no-hitter form, we were sorely mistaken as his downward spiral...
As you know, last Sunday Johan Santana made an excellent rehab start in Brooklyn as he allowed one hit and one walk in three shutout innings against the Doubledays while striking out 3. He then went on to continue his start in a simulated game in the pen.
Oh, I was there too and took a lot of photos:
First, there was an Old Time Baseball Game before the start
Johan Santana returns after his rehab start with Brooklyn on Sunday
The Mets look to bounce back after losing the opening game of their three-game set with the Atlanta Braves last night by the score of 4-0 at the hands of Paul Maholm. Today the Mets throw a left-hander of their own as Johan Santana makes his return from the 15-Day DL after recovering from an ankle injury as well...
NEW YORK (AP) -- Freddie Freeman had five RBIs in the first two innings and the Atlanta Braves battered Johan Santana in his return from the disabled list, routing the sluggish New York Mets 9-3 on Saturday night.
Michael Bourn had three hits, Chipper Jones chased Santana with an RBI single in a seven-run second inning and Atlanta sent the two-time Cy Young Award winner to the worst...
Johan Santana was in command and wowed the crowd at MCU Park during his rehab start where he hit 90 MPH on the radar gun.

NEW YORK -- Freddie Freeman finished with five RBI and hit a mammoth three-run homer during a seven-run second inning and Kris Medlen threw 6 1/3 solid innings as the Atlanta Braves routed the New York Mets 9-3 in front of 30,388 Saturday at Citi Field. The Braves' 14th win in their last 17 games kept them atop the National League wild card race. The Mets lost for the sixth...
It would be an understatement to say the Mets have been disappointing so far in the second half. It’s time to see what’s in store for them this weekend against the Braves.
This is a series between two teams going in completely different directions.
The Braves are playing some of their best baseball of the series, going 12-3 over their last 15 games. What about those Mets? Well...
