Last night the Mets evened their series against the Pirates on the strength of a big eighth inning hit off the bat of Lucas Duda and a huge pitching performance from R.A. Dickey.

The Mets have seemed a little too lackluster over the last few days for my taste, but really rose above it last night to deliver a much needed victory.  Key to this win was R.A. Dickey’s fantastic performance going 7 innings giving up only one run and striking out 11 to get the win.  It is worth noting that Jon Rauch gave up another run in the eighth last night and is looking more and more dangerous in that eighth inning role.  That having been said, Frank Francisco was able to get his job done last night with minimal intrigue.

To change topics for a second, let’s talk about Mike Baxter.  Last year when the Mets brought this kid up I truthfully thought it was nothing more than a publicity stunt, trying to grab attention for a local kid.  As this year wears on, I’ve noticed that Baxter is for real and can play.  I don’t know when that happened, but way to go Mike.  I’m damn impressed.

The Mets look to take the series today in a 12:35 start as Jonathon Niese takes the mound against Charlie Morton.
