Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Omar Minaya did his job so far this month and did it well. He gift wrapped Francisco Rodrguez for Mets fans, and he did it for a cheaper amount than everyone expected. The two days later he made a trade for a setup guy with explosive stuff in J.J. Putz. It took seven Mets players to get it done, but he still got it done. Not to mention, the Mets fans have Aaron Heilman off the team. Now after all the work that Omar has done during the winter meetings, he still has to work to do. He has to go out and get a starter and complete what is missing from this team. The Mets have to go out and try to fill the void left by Pedro Martinez. The best possible solution is to retain Oliver Perez. The Mets would like to give Perez only 3 years , 36 Million dollars. Boras wants a 5 year deal worth 70 Million. The Mets likely solution is what they did with K-Rod and narrow the gap with a 4th year option.
Oliver Perez is not the greatest pitcher on the market, but he is left handed and he has been battle tested in New York. What he does have going for him is he is young and Jerry Manuel and Dan Warthen let him pitch his game.
Buster Olney of ESPN, believes that the Mets feel confident about Perez returning. The Mets really do not have much competition for his services. It's time for Omar to play a game with Boras and find a resolve that both parties can handle.
