Kirk Nieuwenhuis Gets Leadoff Opportunity
Several days ago I gave you my idea for the Mets’ batting order and it included Kirk Nieuwenhuis as the leadoff hitter, so I was happy to read Adam Rubin’s story he will be given first chance to win that job.
Nieuwenhuis will be the leadoff hitter for Saturday’s exhibition game against Washington.
The Mets like Nieuwenhuis’ patience – he sees over four pitches an at-bat...
Pedro Feliciano Shut Down Indefinitely
Mets lefty reliever Pedro Feliciano is being shut down due to heart-related issues, according to Marc Carig of Newsday. Adam Rubin of ESPN says that there is a “small hole” near the outside of Feliciano’s heart, but it does not appear to be life threatening.
The southpaw does not believe the issue to be serious, but as a precaution he will be fitted for a heart monitor....
Lenny Dykstra gets shaggy behind bars
It looks like Lenny Dykstra is going for that old Brian Wilson look while he is behind bars. A mugshot of the gray-bearded Dykstra, once known as "Nails" for his all-out playing style, was obtained by TMZ and shows the former New York Mets centerfielder sporting a ZZ Top starter face. It bears little resemblance to the "Dude" of old. Dykstra, who was a key...
Mets 2013 Bobblehead Giveaways May Be More Exciting Than The Season
The Mets have released their Bobblehead giveaways for the 2013 season. Last season the Mets had Rusty Staub, Tom Seaver, Keith Hernandez, Edgardo Alfonzo, and Mike Piazza.
I was fortunate enough to get all but Hernandez (still looking for a reasonable price on e-Bay).
This year there will be some more Bobblehead giveaways at GHMP:
According to ESPN's Adam Rubin, the Mets will...
Mets360 2013 projections: Shaun Marcum
Next up in our projection series is Shaun Marcum. The Mets acquired Marcum on an incentive-laden deal, to replace R.A. Dickey in the rotation. No one expects Marcum to come close to Dickey’s 20 Wins or 233.2 IP or his 2.73 ERA, which is a good thing since Marcum has never done any of those things and comes in as an injury risk. Here’s what we think Marcum will do in 2013...

Mets push back Johan Santana’s first spring start
The New York Mets have elected to push back Johan Santana’s
first start of spring training as a precautionary measure, according to Marc
Carig of Newsday.
Carig notes that New York is holding Santana back to allow
him to continue to build up his arm strength, not because they are concerned
with an injury. Carig says there is no structural damage that is cause for
concern...
Remembering Karl Ehrhardt, better known as Mets Sign Guy
Sometime this season, Mets fans can hope that a sign which reads “Oppo Taco” appears during a home game. That is Travis d’Arnaud’s personal phrase. In the 80s, we witnessed the “Ks” go up in the K Corner as Dwight Gooden struck out the competition.
Prior to any of this was Karl Ehrhardt, aka: the “Mets Sign Guy”. He first emerged during the 1964 season and became...

Mets rumors: New York ‘unlikely’ to sign Francisco Rodriguez
The New York Mets had been connected to former closer
Francisco Rodriguez earlier this winter. However, it remains “unlikely” that
the Mets sign Francisco, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

When the Mets acquired Zack Wheeler for free-agent-to-be Carlos Beltran in July of 2011, GM Sandy Alderson was praised by the masses in New York. At the time, Wheeler was considered San Francisco’s top pitching prospect. Now the Mets’ top pitching prospect, he has spent the past two seasons cruising through the minor leagues, and should make his Citi...
Spring Training Results Typically Mean Nothing, Except Where The Mets Are Concerned
The question is always posed at the start of the exhibition schedule: How important is it to win during spring training?
For most teams it isn’t and history is full of examples of spring training winners who were flops during the regular season. The reverse also holds true.
But, what about the Mets, who open up today against the Washington Nationals? What are we to make if Zack...
