Joel Sherman of the New York Post says that the Mets are open to bringing back right-hander Chris Young on a minor league contract. Young, 32, posted a 1.88 ERA and 22/11 K/BB ratio over four starts with the Mets last season before undergoing surgery in May to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder and missing the rest of the season. Young’s agent ran into Corey Brock of MLB.com today and told him that he should be ready in time for spring training. Young has made just 22 starts over the past three seasons and it’s become increasingly difficult to rely on him for anything. That said, in those four starts last season he looked absolutely dominant.

Terry Collins on the state of the Mets

Terry Collins spoke with reporters and, gathering information from this report by Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, said the following: Angel Pagan will probably be the leadoff hitter. Daniel Murphy would be next in line to hit leadoff. Tejada will probably not hit leadoff to limit the pressure (being Reyes’ successor). Daniel Murphy is the projected second baseman. But, Justin...

The Mets are being aggressive at the Winter Meetings, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post, talking about everyone except David Wright.  Sherman says the Mets are talking with suitors seriously about Ike Davis, whom the Mets insist is fully healthy.  The Rangers are known to like Davis, he adds.  Davis, 24, missed most of the season with an ankle injury.

The New Evil Empire

Through all the pain and suffering that has befallen us Mets fans this past week, and these past years, it is very easy to lash out. To get mad, to get irrational. I myself have been guilty of it when I lambasted Sandy “Sand-bag” Alderson in a comment thread the other day. But I have to reel myself in for a minute. I have to get my feet back on the ground. I need to remind...

First Big Free Agent Splash

There was no “decision” on ESPN. Mets fans aren’t burning jerseys in the streets. None of the billboards in Time Square are being ripped down. In fact, the news came quietly on a night when most sports fans were glued to the NFL or their Fantasy Football teams. But another star is coming to Miami. No offense to Joe Nathan or Heath Bell, but Jose Reyes was the first big name...

Mets moves not sexy, but make sense

DALLAS — None of this replaces Jose Reyes, especially when it comes to filling seats. No one ever bought a ticket to specifically watch Jon Rauch pitch.
