Posted in FacebookYesterday, the Mets announced that Francisco Rodriguez has a torn ligament in his right thumb, suffered during last Wednesday’s alleged altercation at Citi Field with his ‘father in law.’ Rodriguez did not travel with the team to Houston, as he underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery which revealed the tear, and surgery has been recommended, which would sideline him for the rest of the season. The Mets are telling people they are exploring ways to possibly void the remainder of Rodriguez’s contract. From what I have been told, there are a few ways the Mets can go here, from doing nothing to trying to trade him this winter, to being able to void the roughly $3 million due to him this season (by way of suspension) to being able to void all of the money due to him between now and next season, as well as his 2012 $17.5 million option… and then preparing for the inevitable grievance from the Players Union. In either case, the buzz from Citi Field indicates ...
