John Buck started prepping Jeremy Hefner on tonight’s start with Miami hours ago. He started by meeting with Hefner and pitching coach Dan Warthen about how to pitch the Marlins’ hitters, of which Hefner saw this spring. “How much that will help, I don’t know,’’ Hefner said. “I do know some things about them … and, they know some things about me.’’ HEFNER: Has an opportunity. After meeting with Warthen, Buck and Hefner will sit down and go over the signs and tonight’s game plan. “I don’t want to put something down and have him be totally surprised by it,’’ Buck said. “We want to be thinking along the same lines.’’ What Buck is most interested in seeing from Hefner is how he reacts under pressure. “That’s when you really get to know a pitcher,’’ Buck said. “It takes time.’’ Hefner will attempt to give the Mets a fourth straight strong start, following the efforts of Jon Niese, Matt Harvey and Dillon Gee against San Diego. The Buck Stops Here

With another successful game under the belt for John Buck, he will undoubtedly get a day off tomorrow when the Mets look to take their second straight series to start the season. Although the pace Buck is on is nice, we have to remember why he was brought here. He is a decent hitter, and we knew he had pop, but he is only holding the fort until the Mets deem that Travis D’Arnaud...

Game Preview: Marlins vs Mets

The Mets and Marlins play their first game together at Citi Field tonight as Jeremy Hefner gets the start against Alex Sanabia. Yesterday the Mets dropped the final game of a three game set vs. the Padres by the score of 2-1. Dillon Gee gave the Mets their third straight game of excellent starting pitching but the bats just couldn’t do anything – except for Turner who surprisingly...

NEW YORK (AP) -- John Buck drove in four runs and was part of a rare umpire's call that helped the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 7-3 on Saturday. Collin Cowgill homered, David Wright got three hits and slumping Ike Davis added a pair of singles to lift the Mets on a brisk afternoon at Citi Field. New York led 3-2 in the seventh inning moments before plate umpire Jim...

A Running Folly

For as much as John Buck was a huge factor in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Marlins, so was Juan Pierre. And their paths collided on multiple occasions during the game ... between Pierre bobbling Buck's two run double, and Pierre's baffling interference call when he collided with Buck well into foul territory after scoring a run, this was the kind of game that makes...

Hits and Misses: Tejada’s Rut, Buck Is Keeping d’Arnaud On Ice, Satin, Montero, deGrom

No doubt that you’ve all seen or heard of the defensive woes of Ruben Tejada to start the season. This is frontpage news. The shortstop committed his fourth error yesterday. One person on twitter actually told me it was time to bring up Wilfredo Tovar. I thought he was pulling my leg, but he was serious. That’s not happening and there’s a good chance that Tovar might be...

Early Impressions Of Mets Aren’t Bad

It’s always fun to examine the first impressions of a new season. For example, it is safe to say John Buck will not finish with 292 RBI. However, you might get interesting odds if you believe the 3-2 Mets will continue their pace and outplay the 1-4 Yankees. That being said, the measuring stick for success or failure is their starting pitching. If they get innings it keeps them...
