It was said at the deadline that Omar was attempting to acquire Luis Ayala but that the price was too high. The Nats have been obsessed with finding a young starting quality 2B, they set Jon Rauch to Arizona for 2B Emilio Bonifacio who is now their starter while hitting .228, if he fails I guess they'll give Ahern a chance.I'm not sure what Omar sees in Ayala, he is a 30 y/o right handed power-sinker reliever with a 5.77 ERA and a record of 1-8. Granted that's on an awful Washington team and who knows how that has impacted the intensity level of any of them. In his first three seasons between 2003-2005 he pitched 70 or more innings with an ERA below three. In 2006 he pitched for Mexico in the WBC and blew his elbow out requiring TJ surgery.
