I think the uniform is uniform for a reason. So I think that everybody is kind of in agreement that we’re going to do without.”  This is a well deserved honor for Wright, who — in my mind — has been the unofficial captain for years now.  Jeff Wilpon told Rubin, the decision was made the minute David inked his new eight-year deal, saying: “I think the decision was made when we gave him the contract. Did we announce it then? No, we didn’t announce it then. But I believe the decision was made at that point in time. When you commit that kind of money and resources that we have to a guy like this, you want to make sure he’s the leader. And he’s proven to be that.” This honor has been a long time coming and all of us here at MetsZilla are happy for David.  He is the face of the franchise and conducts himself in a manner that young Mets fans can look up to.  Could not agree more with Doc Gooden, who tweeted the following: #bbpBox_314901484066193408 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_314901484066193408 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Great move by the @Mets naming David Wright the Captain of the team… He’s a class act & leader both on & off the field… Congrats David!! about 14 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @DocGooden16 Dwight Gooden Congratulations from everyone at MetsZilla to our captain, David Wright!

Should The Philadelphia Phillies Have an Official Captain?

Yesterday the New York Mets named third baseman David Wright captain. Wright has decided not to wear the “C” on his jersey, though he still has that leadership role. This brought up the question should the Phillies name a player captain? At the very beginning of Spring Training closer Jonathan Papelbon questioned the Phillies’ leadership. He had said that last season he did...

Murphy Starting The Season On The DL Getting Closer To Reality, Wright Improving

Murphy and Wright are staring the DL in the face due to intercostal injuries. It’s starting to look more and more like Daniel Murphy will begin the 2013 season on the disabled list. Terry Collins had recently stated that if Murphy didn’t play in a major league level tune-up by this coming weekend, that he didn’t think he would be ready for the Opening Day. There is virtually...

Mets’ Batting Order Analysis

Without David Wright and Daniel Murphy available because of strained intercostal muscles, manager Terry Collins doesn’t have much to work with regarding his everyday line-up, which seems to change every day. Here’s today’s Mets-Cardinals lineup and how it might translate to the regular season: Marlon Byrd, rf: If Jordany Valdespin makes the team as it appears, he’ll lead...

The Worst Kept Secrets

The Mets were defeated today by the Cardinals by a score of 3-2, though this game probably had more quantifiable positive developments than yesterday's 7-5 victory. Lucas Duda had not only a couple of hits, but a couple of hits off of Adam Wainwright. Matt Den Dekker laced a 2 run triple ... also off of Wainwright. And Jeremy Hefner wasn't awful today (although he threw a...
