Ike Davis needs to pull it all together for an entire season. Let’s assume for a moment – and this isn’t much of a reach – the Mets don’t do anything for the remainder of the winter. How then, can the Mets be competitive if another assumption that R.A. Dickey won’t be back? A lot of things must happen, beginning with David Wright regaining his power stroke. If he does, and Johan Santana has a good year, that’s only the beginning. So much else has to happen in terms of their young players having breakout seasons. It could happen. It has before. JOSH THOLE: I won’t be going out on a limb if I said Thole would again be the starting catcher. As much as there’s talk of the Mets needing a catcher, they have more pressing needs, such as the bullpen and outfield. Those areas must be addressed first. Thole made a good first impression hitting .321 in 2009 with his bat control, ability to work a count and go to the opposite field. Maybe he was corrupted by watching others with no plate presen...

Another View Of Why The Mets Are Unlikely To Trade R.A. Dickey

Readers of this blog and all of the other Mets-related sites have been speculating on what kind of return would make it worthwhile for the Mets to trade RA Dickey at the peak of his value. Some suggest one “super-prospect”.  Others suggest a package. I had my own thoughts that Dickey should bring back the kind of almost-major-leaguers-but still-prospects such as the Padres got...

MMO Mailbag: Where Does Flores Wind Up?

Pete asks: Now that David Wright will be our third baseman until 2020, what is the future of third base prospect Wilmer Flores? Do you think he’ll be moved to the outfield, or will he be traded? Sean Kenny replies: First – Wilmer Flores and outfield should not be mentioned in the same sentence unless it is at the end of the statement “Wilmer Flores with a hard hit into...

Valdespin Tells Mets To Go Tweet Themselves

Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin is tweeting photos of himself on his twitter account. This particular pic of him sporting a Miami Marlins cap is drawing harsh criticism from the Mets fan base this morning. Valdespin, who was suspended for a short time while playing Winter Ball, has become a magnet for controversy. Despite his talent, the Mets may have to weigh whether or not...

Insane but true: Mets interested in Manny Parra

Lost amid the news of David Wright re-signing with the Mets and the team publicly shopping R.A. Dickey harder than any player in recent memory was this nugget tweeted by Joel Sherman of the New York Post: The Mets are kicking the tires on Manny Parra. If you don’t recognize the name, there are two things you need to know about Parra. One he is a lefty reliever. And two, he’s...

Looking More Like Dickey Stays A Met Without An Extension

Updated Post 11:00 AM Ken Davidoff sums it all up like this: As we leave R.A. Dickey’s hometown, let’s rank his list of admirers, from big fans down to skeptics. 1. R.A. Dickey 2. The New York Mets 3. The 29 other Major League Baseball teams. That’s where things appeared to stand as the Mets and the rest of baseball packed up their laptops, slide projectors and blazers and...

Dickey Wouldn’t Play Long Enough To See Mets Make It Back To Relevancy Anyway

I guess other teams must be wondering why any team would trade a reigning Cy Young Award winner, God knows I frequently ask myself that question. But here is what the the Dallas Morning News believes is the reason: In trying to find starting pitchers to plug into their rotation, the Rangers have been connected to reigning NL Cy Young winner (and former Ranger) R.A. Dickey in the...

New York Mets 2013 Top 21 Prospects List

The New York Mets are a team in flux, but the recent long-term signing of star 3B, David Wright, shows that management is serious about building a team that will get the Mets faithful back on board... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

R.A. Dickey May Pitch for Mets Without Contract Extension

It's easy to forget that R.A. Dickey is still under contract for the 2013 season.  That's because there have been so many rumors tied to him and so much discussion about the Mets working out a new deal for the knuckleballer.  However, New York does not necessarily need to worry about a new contract right now if they want him to pitch for them in 2013.  They already have...

Sandy Alderson’s window is closing

I’ve typically been a Sandy Alderson supporter.  He inherited a series of poor contracts and a team owned by ownership that lacked the ability to invest in the team’s future and I’ve given him leeway.  He managed to trade a Carlos Beltran rental for Zack Wheeler which was a coup but since that he’s not done much. I gave him a pass on Jose Reyes.  Even as Jose Reyes...

Exploring the Options Behind The Plate

JP Arencibia of the Toronto Blue Jays, one of the Mets potential options for a 2013 catcher and beyond. When the Winter Meetings opened up on Monday, many Mets fans expected Sandy Alderson to return home with a new backstop. It turns out the trade market for catchers was thin, and asking prices were high. In addition, the free agent class of catchers is weak at best. Alderson...

Jordany Valdespin wears Marlins hats?!?!

Valdespin tweeted that picture via his twitter handle. He tends to post weird pictures of himself on his Facebook account and twitter account. But this is just going WAY too far… A Miami Marlins hat? Jordany, come on… I want to root for you, but you just make stupid decisions, and you’re immature.

Karma in Seattle: Jason Bay arrives

We knew this was coming eventually.

Rangers Would Trade Olt For Dickey Id They Fail To Land Greinke

According to John Harper of the Daily News, the Texas Rangers would trade top hitting prospect Mike Olt for R.A. Dickey, but only if they first lose out on free-agent Zack Greinke AND are unable to trade for James Shields who is their top preference if they have to make a swap. Meanwhile the Royals and Blue Jays are not that interested in Dickey and and prefer the Mets young...
