New York Mets lefthander Jon Neise and outfielder Scott Hairston are headed for the disabled list.
Niese was placed on the 15-day DL on Wednesday with a right intercostal strain. He suffered the injury while swinging a bat last week and aggravated it in Tuesday's start.
Niese is 11-11 with a 4.40 ERA this season but has lost three straight starts.
Hairston will be placed on the DL before Friday's game vs. Atlanta with an oblique muscle strain. He is scheduled for an MRI when the Mets return to New York.
Hairston is batting .235 with seven homers and 24 RBI this season.
The Mets also recalled catcher Mike Nickeas from Triple-A Buffalo. Nickeas is 5-for-17 with a homer and three RBI for the parent club this season and was brought up as a precaution for Ronnie Paulino.
Paulino, the team's backup catcher, is receiving treatment for a toe injury and is scheduled to have X-rays Friday that may determine whether he lands on the DL.
