The New York Mets have placed infielder Justin Turner on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left intercostal muscle, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters that he only expects Turner to be sidelined for 15 days. "Those intercostals, I think it will only be 15 days," manager Terry Collins said, referencing what has become a common injury at the highest levels of baseball. "He did get an injection, but you just never know. It's the injury of the 2000s. Nobody knows how long they're going to take." Turner said he suffered the injury during batting practice a few days ago, and it hasn’t improved since. It’s awful timing for Turner, who was in line to see significant playing time over the next four games, as the Mets were taking on four left-handed starting pitchers. After the strain was revealed, Turner received a cortisone shot on Monday in New York. He’s currently waiting for its effects to kick in, and he’ll rest for the week before beginning his rehab in Florida. After getting off to a hot start this season, Turner made his way into an 8-for-50 slump that lowered his season totals to .266/.307/.330. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?
