Mets Merized Online:
Sandy Alderson stated that he would have to be “blown away” to deal Bobby Parnell earlier this month, now there is further clarification as to an asking price. The Mets are seeking a top, or a “wheeler type”, prospect in return for their hard-throwing closer reports Jon Heyman via Twitter.
#mets seek a top prospect (a “wheeler type”) for bobby parnell. will not be unhappy to hold onto him.

As high of an asking price as that may seem, it may not be entirely out of the question to get a significant or even high-end prospect in return for Parnell. The Astros traded Jose Veras, a first-year closer, to the Detroit Tigers for their fourth best prospect, 19-year old Danry Vasquez today. Scott Downs of the Angels was sent to Atlanta for their 2006 first-rounder Cory Rasmus who is having a dominant year in Triple-A Gwinnett.
A relatively young closer like Parnell who is under team control through 2013 and beyond could bring in a substantial return...

With Zack Wheeler and Jenrry Mejia now firmly entrenched after promotions from the minors, which Mets prospect are you now most excited to see? I posed the question to some of our writers and here is what they came up with:
Daniel - I hope Travis d’Arnaud can get healthy and productive and make an appearance at some point. John Buck is definitely back to Earth and Anthony Recker...
With the trade Deadline a little over three days away (July 31st - 4 PM), it is not expected nor anticipated that the Mets will make any moves, which seems to be the norm.
I do believe that they do have some trade options that do not include moving any of their young pitching prospects/studs.
Daniel Murphy is on a hot streak right now, and my logic all along is to sell high, and...
Zack Wheeler made his bid for history tonight as he took the Marlins to task with 6.1 innings of no-hit baseball — although he was eventually saddled with a no-decision. Wheeler was masterful through those first six and some innings and was keeping his pitch count low. The Mets also played solid defense behind him, and things were starting to look serious when he struck out Stanton...
Every so often there’s a player that everybody loves to hate. In the past it was players like Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo, and even Mike Pelfrey to some extent towards the end of his Mets tenure. This year it’s Jordany Valdespin. Whether it’s because of his attitude rubbing people the wrong way or his statistics, he is probably the most disliked player on the team. While...

The Mets have stated that Matt Harvey is going to be capped at around 210 innings. Similarly, Zack Wheeler will have his season come to an end when he reaches 185 innings. As of today, Harvey has competed 145 innings, while Wheeler has tossed 108⅔ innings between AAA-Las Vegas and the Mets. That leaves approximately ten starts for both Harvey and Wheeler...
Last night, a red-hot Jordany Valdespin went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored, a walk and an RBI as he continues to demolish the Pacific Coast League. If he isn’t name the PCL Player of the Week on Monday I’d be shocked…

New York Mets' left handed pitcher Jon Niese, who has been on the disabled list since June 21, made his first Minor League rehab start with the Gulf Coast Mets on Saturday.
As reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com,

said of Niese's rehab assignment, which can last up to a month...
Lucas Duda, who has been on the shelf with an intercostal strain, is making a forward step in his rehab assignment, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York:

With the trade deadline set to expire at 4:00 PM today, columnist Joel Sherman reports that one Mets official described interest in any of their as nibbles.
One Mets official described “nibbles” on players, but nothing more serious. And the Mets have decided if they cannot obtain something they feel strongly about for their future, then why trade Marlon Byrd or Bobby Parnell...
