The New York Mets came out with a flurry of bullpen moves Friday afternoon, announcing several changes that will have an immediate effect on the big league club.  For starters, Robert Carson‘s stay with the Mets has been short lived as the lefty was sent back to Triple-A.  As Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reported, Jack Egbert will take Carson’s roster spot:

Right-hander Jack Egbert has been added to the roster of the New York Mets, who optioned left-hander Robert Carson to Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League.

Egbert, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Buffalo of the International League, was to be in uniform for Friday night’s game against the San Diego Padres. The 29-year-old was 2-3 with a 2.08 ERA in one start and 16 relief appearances with the Bisons.

Carson allowed two runs in three innings over two games with the Mets.”

The team also announce that nearly 10 days after demoting D.J. Carrasco, the 35-year-old has been released.  Carrasco signed a 2-year/$2.4 million deal at the start of last season and ends his wasted tenure with New York with a 6.11 ERA (7.36 ERA in 2012).  What can I say, thanks for the memories (not).

Also on the move is Pedro Beato, who tossed another scoreless inning for St. Lucie on Wednesday.  The 25-year-old will take his rehab to Triple-A Buffalo and one would believe Manny Acosta‘s place in the pen is Pedro’s for the taking.

Beato, a rule 5 pick from the Orioles back in December of 2011, was 2-1 for New York last season with 11 holds.

Beato showed he has the tools to compete at the major league level throughout 2011 and for a short time was borderline untouchable.   In his first 18 2⁄3 innings the then rookie allowed no earned runs, setting the Mets franchise record for longest scoreless inning streak to start a career.  I’m sure Mets fans wouldn’t take issue with the youngster starting his 2012 campaign in a similar fashion.
