Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada appeared set for the disabled list after negative MRI exam results on the strained right quadriceps he suffered Sunday, a team source told the New York Post.
Tejada will be further examined Monday but was regarded as "very likely" to be sidelined, the source said.
Tejada's spike caught in the clay as he legged out a bunt single with two outs in the fourth inning of the Mets' 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
He stumbled onto first base, laying motionless for a minute before being helped off the field and replaced by Justin Turner. Tejada also sustained facial bruises on the play.
The Mets source confirmed MRI exam results on the shortstop were "not good" but added, "The final decision won't be made until he's evaluated. Tejada still thinks he can play in a few days."
Manager Terry Collins said Tejada did not believe the injury was as severe as the groin woes that cost him a week in spring training.
"I don't know how bad it's going to be. If they think it's going to be five, six days, we'd probably have to make some move to get somebody here," Collins said, adding that the Mets could go up to four days with Turner at shortstop and David Wright as the backup.
