Found November 18, 2012 on MLB Injury News:
The news broke yesterday that the New York Mets, in their attempt to keep their 38-year old Cy Young Award winner, would offer R.A. Dickey a two-year deal.  The deal would be a two-year extension as Dickey is still under contract with the Mets through next season. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Dickey would be looking for at least $20 million over the two-year extension.  He will make $5 million next season, but after his 2012 performance, Dickey is due a hefty raise - even at his age. As we discussed previously here, Dickey had a minor surgical procedure after the season ended.  The surgery to repair an abdominal tear should not affect his offseason program, and he should be in great shape for spring training.  The surgery has had little to no effect on Dickey's contract negotiations. The Mets are hoping to have a deal in place between now and the winter meetings in December, but with Dickey under contract for next season, they have plenty of time to negotiated or trade the veteran knuckleballer. Dickey has pitched in the Majors for ten seasons now.  He has a career record of 61-56 and a career ERA of 3.98.  This past season was his best by far.  Dickey went 20-6 on the year with a 2.73 ERA.  He also led the National League in strikeouts with 230.  It was a year that brought the knuckleball back to the forefront of the public's imagination.  The dying pitch has been mastered by few and perfected by even less.  Perhaps this season is indicative of Dickey perfecting the pitch finally.  We'll see if the Mets are willing to take a $20 million gamble on that bet. Mets Want A Monster Package For Dickey

Andy Martino of the Daily News reports that the Mets want a ‘monster package’ for R.A. Dickey, which is likely a few high-end prospects, major leaguers, outfielders and catching help. He cites a high-ranking MLB executive, that “if the Mets don’t get this level return, they’re probably not going to trade him.” Wow, talk about too pricey… Incredible… Honestly, I don’t...

Trading R.A. Dickey… For whom?

There has been TOO much talk about the Mets keeping/trading R.A. Dickey without any real discussion over what they think they could realistically get for a 37-year old Cy Young.  It’s great that he throws a pitch that’s easy on the arm and has shown remarkably good health but age is always a concern and just as the Mets are more eager to trade Dickey than David Wright because...

Subway Squawkers interview with R.A. Dickey, Mets Cy Young Award winner

I was very excited to have the opportunity to speak with 2012 NL Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey earlier today. Dickey is one of the stars of "Knuckleball!," which is now available through video on demand. The DVD is available for pre-order at knuckleballmovie.com. Squawker Lisa and I were able to see the movie last spring at the Tribeca Film Festival and we highly recommend...

Mets may be close on offer to Dickey

The New York Mets could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their negotiations with National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. Or, maybe not. The Mets plan to offer Dickey a two-year contract extension, according to major league sources. Whether Dickey would accept such a deal remains to be seen. Dickey, 38, is under contract next season for $5 million. He likely would...

An Argument to Extend R.A. Dickey

Much of the talk around the Mets fan base in the wake of R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young win this week has been about his value and whether it would be best for the Mets to give Dickey a contract extension or trade him at what appears to be the peak of his value. I’ve found myself on both ends of this discussion over the last few weeks. There was a time two weeks ago that I had pretty...

R.A. Dickey, National League Cy Young award winner, is the Toast of the Town

R.A. Dickey will deservedly be accepting the Cy Young Award at the BBWAA’s annual awards dinner this January. The 38-year-old knuckleballer for the Mets, found a fitting epilogue to his storybook season tonight, when he was named winner of the 2012 National League Cy Young Award. Dickey earned 27 of 32 first-place votes, finishing ahead of Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers...

What Will Mets Do With Wright and Dickey?

I used to love checking out those polls they frequently conduct at MetsBlog and always enjoyed reading the results. But in the last two years, the majority vote seems to mirror the same opinions of the MetsBlog team. I find their poll results being too predictable now, and I think it’s because readers have more choices with new Mets sites sprouting up all the time. We love to...

Report: Mets offer Dickey two-year deal

The New York Mets have reportedly offered NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey a two-year contract extension. Fox Sports reported Saturday morning that the Mets planned to make an offer but the New York Daily News later reported that the club already made the offer. It is not clear how much money is involved, but the Daily News reported that Dickey, 38, would sign a contract comparable...

This Is Too Funny… Mets On Verge Of Dickey Deal, Or Maybe Not

Major League sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Mets plan to offer R.A. Dickey a two-year contract extension… I think… The New York Mets could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their negotiations with National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. Or, maybe not. Olney: Dickey wants more than $10 million/year on 2-year extension

According to Marc Carig of Newsday “the window between Thanksgiving and the winter meetings are going to be an important window in Mets’ talks with Dickey/Wright.”  That window may be even tighter as rumors today have suggested the team is making a 2-year offer to Dickey.  In fact, depending on what you read, the team may have made an offer as long as 2 weeks ago: #bbpBox_26984354869687091...

Olney: Wilpons should re-sign Dickey or sell team

In reading a column from Buster Olney recently I saw the ESPN writer make a pretty bold statement regarding the Wilpon family and the New York Mets.  Most of the column requires ESPN Insider access to read, but Olney makes his point pretty clear in the intro (click here to read in full):   Photo by Michael G. Baron R.A. Dickey looked a little shaken after winning the Cy Young...

Rosenthal: Mets could be on verge of a breakthrough in negotiations with Dickey

Yesterda, Newsday reporter Marc Craig tweeted that New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson “doesn’t think Dickey winning the Cy Young will significantly impact talks.”  Ken Rosenthal’s article today for Fox Sports certainly seems to echo that sentiment as the team is reportedly preparing to offer Dickey a 2-year-extension: The New York Mets could be on the verge of...

Jeff Wilpon Addresses Wright and Dickey Negotiations

Jeff Wilpon responded to a report in the New York Post and told reporters that he is more optimistic now than a month ago that the Mets can get new deals done with David Wright and R.A. Dickey. He is encouraged more and more as the process moves along because there’s been back and forth conversations, reports Marc Carig. Wilpon also added that he could see a scenario where both...

This weeks crowning of R.A. Dickey as National League Cy Young award winner sets the Tennessee native near the top of another rather select list of major leaguers…those who succeeded despite physical deformities.  These men didn’t overcome bad knees, a la Mickey Mantle, or end a dominant career with a bone on bone elbow like Sandy Koufax…. No these men had actual missing...

Would You Pay $63 to See The Mets on Opening Day?

If you were to search Stub Hub for 2013 Opening Day baseball tickets what would you expect to pay for the Mets opener?  For the worst seat in the house, about $30 would sound appropriate and one would only pay that much because it is opening day. Early on Monday, the Mets placed single-game tickets on sale for the 2013 season for games through May 26.  The minimum price for the...
