The New York Mets re-assigned six players on Sunday afternoon, including the organizations top prospect, catcher Travis d’Arnaud: #bbpBox_315943804408569858 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_315943804408569858 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Sent to minors: Travis d’Arnaud, Aaron Laffey, Andrew Brown, Brian Bixler, Jamie Hoffmann about 7 hours ago via EchofonReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin The re-assignment of d’Arnaud should come of no surprise, even with his impressive spring.  The clubs top hitting prospect collected 12 hits (.343 avg) and four runs batted in over 35 Grapefruit League at-bats:   His production at the dish, and his work behind it, impressed the Mets brass this spring. “He played very well,” general manager Sandy Alderson said of d’Arnaud, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. “He met all of our expectations, which I think for the organization and Mets fans, were fairly high. He did a very nice job, and we’re hopeful he’ll have a long career in New York.” There is no doubt that having d’Arnaud start the year at Triple-A Las Vegas benefits the Mets from a variety of team control standpoints. If the 24-year-old spend the first 20 days of the season in the minors, the Mets could delay his free-agency by one-year (after the 2018 season until after the 2019 season).  Like Zack Wheeler, it is obvious New York wants to ensure that neither player receives enough service time to become a Super Two player. There is nothing wrong with that, at all.  In fact, it is a smart decision and one that I have no problem with.  We need to look no further than Ike Davis as to why this move makes sense: #bbpBox_315964598564057088 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_315964598564057088 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } … Ike Davis will make $3 million instead of $500k this year because he was called up in April instead of June two years ago. about 5 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin #bbpBox_315964722170171397 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_315964722170171397 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Each year going forward now for the next 3, his salary escalation will be from a higher figure than it otherwise would have been. about 5 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin #bbpBox_315965688885960704 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_315965688885960704 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } By the way, Ike needs to buy Fernando Tatis and Mike Jacobs something nice. Their 2010 flop as 1B platoon made Ike extra $2.5M this year. about 5 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin There is no doubt in my mind — assuming d’Arnaud continues to hit and staya healthy in Triple-A — that we will see the youngster after the “Super Two” designation date.  When will that be, exactly?  According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, “One major league executive estimated a call-up after June 15 probably would allow d’Arnaud to miss the “Super Two” designation.”
