Amid all the Wright hoopla, there was some buzz surrounding the Mets and free agent Scott Hairston in Nashville today.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that the Mets don’t want to offer Hairston more than a two-year contract.
Additionally, Mike Puma of the New York Post adds that if the Mets do come to an agreement with Hairston, the team will most likely be unable to add ant other free agents this winter.
The two sides did meet yesterday, and both were somewhat optimistic something could get done.
The Yankees and Tiger have shown the most significant interest in Hairston, with the Giants, Cardinals and Indians also in the group photo.
I’d love to see Hairston return next season. He was one of the few nice surprises last season when in a limited role he hit 20 home runs (third on the team) with 57 RBI in 377 at-bats. His .803 OPS ranked second on the team trailing only David Wright.
That said, I wouldn’t give the 32-year old more than a two year contract either. That’s too long ...
