Found July 02, 2013 on New York Mets Report:
Matt Harvey isn’t the only New York Mets pitcher not receiving any support from his hitters. The true measure of how well Jeremy Hefner has pitched this year isn’t found in his 2-6 record, but 3.72 ERA. Hefner has arguably been the Mets’ second most effective starter behind Harvey, which should mute any trade discussions. HEFNER: Having understated season. (AP) Hefner, tonight’s starter against Arizona, was 1-1 in June with three no-decisions despite a 1.80 ERA. The Mets gave him all of nine runs for the month, including just one in his previous start, last Thursday in Denver. Conversely, Hefner has given up 14 runs in his last four starts, with nine of them unearned, so he’s getting it on both ends. Hefner took a no-decision in the Colorado start, but didn’t go away discouraged. “I knew that I could pitch this way,’’ Hefner said that day in Denver. “My performance is finally matching up to the expectation. This doesn’t surprise me. I know I’m capable of doing this. So it’s not a sh

Hefner Credits Pitching Coach For Improved Performance

After last night’s game, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal tweeted that he thought Jeremy Hefner was probably the second best pitcher in the Mets rotation. Ummm… I agree… I wanted to update this post with something Hefner said after last night’s sterling performance. Asked about the many wins he was denied because of a lack of run support or the handful of blown leads...

Jeremy Hefner Among Group Of Mets Making 2014 Noises

The New York Mets had high expectations for Matt Harvey for this year. Jeremy Hefner was to fill out the rotation in Las Vegas, and be called up if something went wrong, like we knew it would, in Flushing. Hefner’s break came with the expected breakdown of Johan Santana. He made the Opening Day roster, was hammered early, but eventually has become one of the Mets’ most effective...

Hefner for Hire

Jeremy Hefner started his MLB career 4-12 including 0-5 to start this season over his first 10 starts, in which the New York Mets were 0-10.  On May 20th, 2013 an EF5 Tornado ripped through Moore, Oklahoma, just a mile from the home of Hefner, a town in which he attended that same elementary school that had its roof ripped off.  Since that date, Hefner has made 8 starts,...

Jeremy Hefner Gets it Done Against Arizona

As has been the case all year, Jeremy Hefner seems to improve with each start.  After another dominant outing last night against the Diamondbacks, he lowered his earned run average to a second best among Mets starters, 3.54. Hefner worked well striking out six, allowing four hits and two walks, but worked out of trouble every time including the rain-aided double for Miguel Montero...

Mr. and Mrs. Met caught on 'Kiss-Cam' at Citi Field, Matt Harvey gets caught on street cam

Mr. Met didn't waste any time waiting to plant one on the Mrs. when the "Kiss-Cam" zoomed in on the couple sitting in the stands of Citi Field Wednesday night.  The pony-tailed baseball did a little runway strut for the camera after they locked lips(?). Your browser does not support iframes. On Tuesday, the mascots' favorite player, Mr. Matt — better known...

The X Files: Harvey Is Otherworldly

Matt Harvey has the lowest ERA (2.25) among pitchers since 1921, whose first 27 major league appearances were all starts. Mike Mussina is second on that list (2.56 ERA). Harvey also has the best WHIP (0.95) of any pitcher since 1921 through his first 27 career starts. Only four other pitchers had a WHIP under 1.00 in their first 27 starts: Dick Hughes (0.96), Vida Blue (0.97...

Mets 9, Diamondbacks 1

Once the rain stopped, the hits came for the New York Mets. Jeremy Hefner and the Mets handed Patrick Corbin his first loss, breaking away from the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-1 on a drizzly Tuesday night and sending the NL West leaders to their season-worst fifth straight defeat. Josh Satin hit an RBI double that put the Mets ahead 2-1 in a seven-run seventh inning that lasted about...

Resilient Mets Show Something; Josh Satin And Andrew Brown Star

No, Matt Harvey doesn’t get a partial credit for a win last night, but even so it was fun to watch the New York Mets turn aggravation to something to shout about. They left 20 runners on base for the second time this season, but nonetheless came from behind twice to beat Arizona, 5-4 in 13 innings, before another sparse crowd at Citi Field. BROWN: Coming through. (AP) `If you...

Mets planning to shut Harvey down?

The Mets are reportedly planning to shut down ace Matt Harvey because of a Stephen Strasburg-style innings cap. He has been their best pitcher this season.

Diamondbacks 5, Mets 3

Randall Delgado outpitched Matt Harvey for his first major league win in more than a year, and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a five-game skid with a 5-3 victory over the New York Mets after a long rain delay Wednesday night. Cody Ross hit a three-run homer off Harvey to put Arizona ahead, and Delgado struck out a career-high nine in seven innings to give the NL West leaders their...

A Long Day, But Long Overdue

Many times, reality doesn't reach the hype. We've been spoiled by Matt Harvey, who seems to reach the hype every time, and has done so in a relatively short period of time. Zack Wheeler hasn't even reached Harvey's amount of service time, so to think that Wheeler was going to break through and be dominant and reach his hype after three starts is quite ridiculous....
