PLAYERS: Jose Fernandez
TEAMS: Miami Marlins
Jose Fernandez is the ace and future of the Marlins pitching staff The Miami Marlins have gone through quite a whirlwind two years. Last season they were picked by many to be world series contenders after adding Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle,  and Heath Bell to go along with a core led by Giancarlo Stanton and a healthy staff ace in Josh Johnson. Fast forward an off-season and all the prized free-agent signings are elsewhere and the Marlins have a brand new, young stud of an ace in Jose Fernandez, who recently turned 21. The Marlins are in full rebuild mode keeping very little of the team they expected to compete in 2012. Jose Fernandez has quickly become a shining star and given a ray of light to the Marlins young pitching staff. Fernandez should be and probably will be the Marlins Opening Day starter in 2014 but before next season rolls around, the Marlins plan on shutting down Fernandez at 170 innings. Considering the Marlins will probably not be in contention at the rate they’re goi...

MIAMI -- Miami's Jose Fernandez stood hatless and in an orange T-shirt behind the empty batting cage talking with Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig more than two hours before the start of Monday night's series opener. Jose Fernandez Adds a New Pitch

Any other year and Jose Fernandez would be getting a lot more attention. The Marlins’ rookie starting pitcher recently turned 21 years old and he was promoted to the major straight from Single-A. It was, at least, advanced Single-A, but his experience there was all of 55 innings. Now he’s up to 24 big-league starts, […]

Henderson Alvarez does not care for bunting

Miami Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez squared up to bunt against the Giants’ Matt Cain on Saturday, but when he saw a Cain fastball heading right toward him, understandably, he bailed. But Henderson’s bat did not bail. Instead, the lumber levitated for a second and bunted the ball anyways, deflecting the pitch into foul territory. It was something you certainly don’t see...
