Another Cubs Blog:
Carlos Torres, RHP (7.05, MLE FIP 3.91) v Ryan Dempster, RHP (4.13, 3.75), 1:20 PM CT
Per HP, Torres throws a bunch of different pitches, including a curveball, slider, fastball, changeup, and sinker. His main problem is finding the strike zone, and so far hitters have largely been content with making him throw strikes. His minor league numbers are pretty good though, and he’s been especially good at keeping the ball in the park (career 5.4% HR/9 in the minors). However, he’s also a 26 year-old AAA pitcher who is getting his first taste of the bigs, so take those numbers with a grain of salt. Dempster was knocked around a bit by the Mets in his last start, but he is what he is. I think his current FIP (as opposed to the projected ZiPS one) is much closer to what we should be seeing going forward in his contract.
oh, and just for fun
