AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
The Yankees were able to withstand a furious eighth inning rally by the Charlotte Knights to win 6-4. Justin Thomas turned in a solid spot start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, allowing just one hit over four shutout innings before giving way to the bullpen. Chase Whitley followed Thomas and would earn the win with three shutout innings, though they did get a scare as Manny Delcarmen got rocked for four runs in the eighth. Ryota Igarashi pitched a scoreless ninth to record his fourth save of the season. At the plate, Jack Cust and Francisco Cervelli powered the team with two RBI a piece. Brandon Laird and Cole Garner each drove in one run. Cervelli and Corban Joseph were the only Yankees with multiple hits on the day, with three extra-base hits between them.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Shaeffer Hall took the loss for Trenton last night despite turning in 7 2/3 decent innings on the mound. The 24 year old allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out three. Ryan Pope would record the team’s final out. Kevin Mahoney had the team’s lone RBI on Tuesday, bringing home Melky Mesa on an RBI groundout in the second inning. The Thunder’s only other run came as a result of a wild pitch on a Rob Segedin strikeout which allowed J.R. Murphy to come around and score. As a team, Trenton failed to get a hit with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-5 on the evening.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Joba Chamberlain started for Tampa last night as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. He would pitch just one perfect inning before giving way to Jose Ramirez, who promptly got torched in 1 1/3 innings of work. Ramirez, who has arguably been Tampa’s best starter this season, gave up four runs on five hits last night. He took the loss as the Yankees fell to the Lakeland Flying Tigers 4-3. The bullpen combined for 5 2/3 shutout innings after Ramirez’s departure. Mason Williams led the offense, hitting his third home run of the season. Two of the better known prospects on the team, Ramon Flores and Gary Sanchez, had the team’s other two RBIs. OF Adonis Garcia was the lone Yankee to record multiple hits on the evening.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs
Charleston fell to the Rome Braves on Tuesday in a pitching duel which saw just two runs – only one of which was earned – scored by either team. Philip Wetherell got the start for the RiverDogs and took his fourth loss of the season. Over three innings of work, Wetherell allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven hitters. He would then give way to William Oliver, who tossed the final six frames for Charleston. Oliver was charged with just one unearned run on two hits. He struck out four. Charleston scrapped together only four hits offensively, two of which came off the bat of Ben Gamel. Dante Bichette’s troubles in the field continued, as he had his 20th error of the season at third base.

The Rehab Report
Walter Ibarra: Ibarra went 1-for-5 with a strikeout on the day. He also grounded into a double play.

Austin Romine: Romine had five plate appearances yesterday afternoon, going 1-for-3 with a double that scored two runs. Romine scored twice and walked twice. Defensively, he allowed a passed ball, but threw out the only runner who attempted to steal on him.

Tyler Austin: Austin went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Defensively, he returned to the field for the first time since his injury.

Zachary Nuding: Nuding tossed 4.2 innings for the GCL Yankees, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. He would strike out four Braves hitters.
