PLAYERS: Sandy Alderson
TEAMS: New York Mets
SNY analyst Bobby Ojeda came down HARD on the Mets new philosophy at the plate with regard to heir approach at the plate during tonight’s Mets pre-game show. For those that missed it, Ojeda ripped into what he called “this business of taking so many pitches” that the organization has forced the players to adopt. “SWING THE BATS!” he repeated throughout his respinse to co-host Chris Carlin. It started like this after Carlin shifted the conversation to the struggling Mets offense: Chris Carlin: Are we starting to see some trends that should have the Mets concerned right now? Bobby O: Absolutely and part of the problem is taking strikes they’ve been taking strikes all season and they continue to take strikes and that is what leads to these numbers. SNY posted a graphic right that showed the following: Mets NL Rankings Mets rank 9th in runs scored per game at 3.8. Mets rank 5th in bases on balls with 90 Mets rank 1st in strikeouts with 211 Mets rank 16th in stolen bases with 8 Mets ra...

Mets Making Roster Moves: Option Schwinden, Call up Rottino, Batista will start in 5th spot

Rottino The Mets on Friday announced that Batista will take Chris Schwinden's place in the rotation. Batista will be available out of the bullpen throughout this weekend, before starting Tuesday's game in Philadelphia. That could last for any number of starts, with manager Terry Collins indicating he would like for Batista to stay in that role at least until Chris Young...

Looking for rotation help beyond Schwinden and Batista

I like Chris Schwinden and think with patience he could be a back-end starter or AAAA backup for most teams.  However if the Mets are going to try and stay relevant in the NL East and in the 2012 season they cannot continue to toss Chris out there every 5th day… at least not with the general quality of our other four starters.  So is there a solution externally or internally...

Would Bobby Parnell have been perfect laughter?

Former pickle factory worker, postal clerk and poet Charles Bukowski once remarked: ”The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence.” I think it takes some confidence to start a blog, put your real name on your opinions, allow others to share their thoughts on your ramblings and do it year after year...

System Failure: No End In Sight For Mets Bullpen Implosions

In eleven save opportunities, the Mets bullpen now has five blown saves. That’s not a typo – Five blown saves to go with six saves for the season so far. Every time that bullpen gate opens, no matter who emerges from it, the odds that they will protect any size lead is a little bit better than 50/50. A revamped bullpen you say? The Mets saw fit to expend 75% of their available...

22-4? The St. Lucie Mets are a regular riot... Buffalo 5, Syracuse 2 The purple skies beyond Coca-Cola Field flashed with bursts of lightning south of the Queen City. Between the lines in Buffalo, the Herd struck just as fast for a victory over the rival Chiefs. The Bisons made quick work of a two-run deficit to score a 5-2 win over Syracuse from Coca-Cola Field. A 23-minute rain...

Pre-Game: Arizona Diamondbacks (13-13) @ New York Mets (13-12)

The New York Mets return home tonight coming off of a road trip that left a really bad taste in the mouths of both the club and fan base. After sweeping the Florida Marlins, the Mets were crushed 19-8 before bouncing back and taking the series from the Colorado Rockies. Just as it seemed the poor performances were behind them once again, they were swept by the reigning MLB cellar...

Mets 4, D-backs 3: Rubber Game Tomorrow

The New York Mets (14-13) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (14-14) by the score of 4-3 today. The Mets forced a rubber game tomorrow with the win today. The Mets played well today. Johan Santana, who didn’t have his best stuff, pitched seven innings while allowing three runs and nine hits. He battled like always, and gave the Mets a quality start. The Mets gave Santana run support...

Mariano Was Always A Stand-up Guy To Me

This is a Mets blog, but also a baseball blog, and part of baseball is Mariano Rivera, the Yankees’ Hall of Fame closer. Mets fans remember Rivera because he snuffed out many games over the years, including Game 5 of the 2000 World Series. When the ball left Mike Piazza’s bat with a crack I thought it had a chance, but like many before, because of that awesome cutter, Piazza...

Greener Pastures On The Horizon For Buffalo?

The off season in some sports has, at times, adopted the moniker ‘silly season’.  It’s that time of year when the dust kicks up from coast to coast, team names change, affiliations change, team locations change.  While more prevalent in the minor league hockey world, the silly season affects minor league baseball as well. This upcoming offseason may prove to be an interesting...

Mets 4, Diamondbacks 3

NEW YORK -- With just enough runs to support him, Johan Santana finally got his first win of 2012 as the New York Mets held off the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 Saturday before 30,253 at Citi Field. The two-time Cy Young winner, for whom the Mets had been shut out in four of his first five starts, took advantage of a four-run Mets outburst in the fourth inning as he improved to 1-2...

News Flash: There Is A Baseball Team In Buffalo

It’s a place that the Bisons haven’t been since early in the 2010 season, but after a 6-5 win over Syracuse last night they now find themselves alone in first place in the IL North for just the eighth time since becoming the New York Mets’ AAA affiliate. However, no one has really been out to support this young group of talented ball players. Sure, the average attendance is...
