Wright celebrates after one of his two home runs DAVID WRIGHT, 3B MMO PLAYER OF THE WEEK David Wright finally took flight for the 2013 season this past week, as he lifted off with two home runs in Colorado. The Mets captain had been hitting well to start the year, but was not producing much in the way of power until he entered the thin Colorado air. Wright batted .350/.519/.850, with two triples, two home runs, and five RBI as he helped lead the Mets offensive attack. He didn’t just drive in runs, as he scored five runs himself, accounting for a total of 10 runs during the week. Wright got on base a total of 14 times in his 27 plate appearances, with seven hits and seven walks, which equated to his .519 OBP. Another promising sign that jumped out at me the most, was the fact that he did not have one strikeout all week. When David is locked in, he makes steady contact. With some of the strikeout issues he has had in recent years, it was nice to see him square the ball up and have suc...

Defending the struggling Ike Davis

It’s the time of the year when everybody seeks out the guy who seems to be struggling the most, says he sucks, and then calls for him to be traded.  The culprit this year: Ike Davis. Coming into Sunday’s matchup with the Nationals, Davis owned a .161/.254/.321 slash line and was striking out in 28.6% of his plate appearances.  Pretty ugly numbers, especially when you consider...

The Buck Stops Here: Mets Take The Series With 2-0 Win Over Nats

The New York Mets (9-8) bounced back from a disappointing 7-6 loss to the Washington Nationals on Saturday, and took the series with a convincing 2-0 win this afternoon at Citi Field. The team is once again, a game over .500 for the year. Dillon Gee bounced back from a couple of brutal starts and tossed 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out six...

Mets Announce Niese Has A Bruise, X-Rays Negative, Day To Day

Updated 8:30 PM The Mets announced that Jon Niese has a bruise, but that X-Rays were negative and are saying he is day-to-day. Good news, to say the least… Original Post Jon Niese was just removed from the game in the top of the third inning after being hit by a batted ball by Mark Ellis while trying to get out of it’s way. He dropped to the ground in pain, but left the field...

Parnell and the pen come up big for Mets

The New York Mets took the rubber game against the Washington Nationals Sunday afternoon en route to their third straight home series win of the season.  John Buck did what John Buck does, mash home runs (never really thought I’d be saying that).  His seventh homer of the year came in the second inning and was really all the offense the pitching staff would need.  The dinger...

Mets Designate Aaron Laffey for Assignment

MLB News: After struggling with a 7.20 ERA through ten innings for the New York Mets, LHP Aaron Laffey has been designated for assignment. The Mets now have 10 days to decide what to do with him. Being a lefty, Aaron will get another shot if the Mets decide to part ways with him. Fantasy Ramifications: There is no fantasy baseball relevance to this transaction. The post Mets...

Niese diagnosed with leg contusion after being hit with comebacker

New York Mets starting pitcher Jon Niese has been diagnosed with a lower right leg contusion. While x-rays on Niese’s leg came back negative it is questionable whether the 26-year-old will make his next start. Niese was hit in the right leg with a comebacker off the bat of Mark Ellis of the Dodgers. The Mets are aleady without Johan Santana for the year after it was deamed that...

Featured Post: Zack Wheeler Not Ready For Prime Time

Baseball 101: Regardless of the level of play, if a pitcher walks too many batters he will be beaten. It is a baseball fundamental understood by everybody, with the exception of those insisting the Mets bring up Zack Wheeler, who walked six hitters in his last start. The clamoring is getting louder in the wake of the Mets’ continued problems with the back end of their rotation...

Mets’ bullpen underwhelming so far

The headline sounds like a broken record to Mets fans, and may be a bit kind. The small sample size rule is in play of course, since the season is less than a month old, but so far in 2013 the Mets bullpen has not been very good. The bullpen has a record of 2-2 with an ERA of 5.47 in 52.2 innings pitched. As of 4/21, that ERA is dead last in all of baseball. That’s bad, but let’s...

Yahoo! Sports Article: New York Mets Should Continue Changing Starting Rotation

Once it was clear Shaun Marcum would have to start the season on the disabled list, Terry Collins was adamant that Aaron Laffey was their first option to fill the void. Unfortunately for the New York Mets, he struggled virtually every time he took the mound. The last straw was on Saturday afternoon; the Amazins stormed back against Gio Gonzalez and the Washington Nationals, taking...

Binghamton’s Ceciliani Aims for Health, Success

By NICOLE SORCE sportsmediawatchdog.com PORTLAND, Maine – It feels like an eternity for Binghamton Mets outfielder Darrell Ceciliani since he was selected by the New York Mets in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. He had just finished his senior season at Columbia Basin Community College in Pasco, Wash., where he ranked third in school history for single-season RBIs with 41. “That...
