Found November 14, 2011 on Mets Merized Online:
Welcome back for the 9th installment of the MMO Mets Top 20 Prospects list, featuring the #12 Mets prospect, Buffalo Bisons infielder Jordany Valdespin. Valdespin wouldn’t have made this list if not for the impressive showing he made in 2011. Although he is a gifted and “toolsy” athlete, he is still very raw, with a great many holes in his game. It’s just that you can’t ignore the natural talent, and his eye-popping abilities. A major problem for “Spin” is the mental side of the game. He tends to have concentration lapses in the field, at bat, and on the base-paths. As a fielder, he has terrific range, and a strong throwing arm, but his hands are not soft, and he appears to stab at the ball, his glove-work choppy. As a hitter, he can be dynamic and shows some potential “pop”, but he swings at everything, is completely undisciplined, and therefore is not effective at the top of the order. Last year in 511 AB’s he struck out 93 times and walked 25 times, for an OBP of only .333. As a...

The Fire Drill Before the Fire

Remember back in elementary school when fire drills would catch everyone by surprise? Well the Mets and their fan base experienced something of a fire drill today when rumors (courtesy of XM Radio) began to perpetuate about Jose Reyes and the Miami Marlins agreeing to a contract that was dependent on Reyes passing a physical. The false reports stirred up a general consensus of ...

AFL Round Up: Juan Lagares has been stellar this fall

Murphy or Duda could be on the block ?

Ken Rosenthal speculates that the Mets could look to trade one of Lucas Duda or Dan Murphy because of duplication.  Alderson has suggested several times when speaking to the media that some of the holes could be filled this off-season through trades and if the team is rebuilding then they'd probably be reluctant to deal prospects...Alderson loves the long ball and with the fences...

WHERE HAVE YOU GONE NELLY D, METS FANS TURN THEIR LOSING EYES TO YOU

Rumors were flying again yesterday that Jose Reyes signed with the Flamboyant Fish but those rumors seem premature but it looks like the Mets are going forward in the post-Reyes era by letting it known that #Imwith28 will be given the 2nd base job and team with Ruben Tejeda to secure the middle infield. In the name of the father…… The major problem with #Imwith28 is his two...

Minor Moves: Taylor Buchholz

The latest minor moves... Taylor Buchholz cleared waivers, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Though he still appears on the team's official roster, it appears that the Mets outrighted him off of it. He would have earned roughly $1.2MM in 2012 had the Mets retained him through arbitration. GM Sandy Alderson isn't sure if anxiety and depression will prevent...

Mets Rumors: Reyes, Closer, Murphy, Duda

The Mets were far from the favorite for Jose Reyes entering the offseason.  But if the Marlins offered Reyes six years and $90MM as a starting bid, Mets fans can forget about him coming back in the opinion of ESPN New York's Adam Rubin.  For months now, the impression has been that the Mets don't want to exceed four years for the shortstop.  They'll have to hope for...

What I’ve Been Saying All Along: The Mets should explore trading Murphy, Duda, Tejada or Turner

Are the 2012 Marlins Trying To Be The 2005 Mets?

The Marlins have reportedly offered contracts to Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols, and Mark Buehrle and they have expressed interest in Ryan Madison. Are they the 2005 Mets? Going into 2005, the Mets brought in a new manager to bring a new sense of energy into the franchise (and a new GM to spur this, which is probably the largest reason for why the Marlins are not the Mets) in Willie...
