The Seattle Mariners have been waiting for a breakout performance from Jesus Montero, and this week in Kansas City, they got it. Coming into the four-game series against the Royals, Montero was in a major funk. Picked up from the Yankees in the off-season in a trade that sent Michael Pineda to New York, the 22-year-old was a .257 hitter with seven homers and 27 RBIs through May 30. Beginning June 1, however, he went into a major funk. Through June 13, he had a .216 average with just one homer and one RBI. Admittedly, he didn't play from July 5-13 because of a concussion, but most of the non-production was before the injury. That turned around against the Royals. His three-hit, four-RBI game in a 6-1 win behind Felix Hernandez on Thursday completed a breakout 10-for-17, eight-RBI series.
