Mitch Moreland is more than just a hot hitter. The Texas first baseman, who is flirting with a .300 average thanks to a hot August, is also impressing the Rangers with improved defense. Moreland provided half of the Rangers' offense in an 8-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday with a two-run homer -- his third homer in the last eight games -- one night after he preserved a win with a pair of sharp defensive plays. With the bases loaded in what was a scoreless game Tuesday, Moreland stopped Jose Lobaton's fourth-inning bouncer and started an inning-ending double play with a strong throw. The Rangers took the lead in the bottom of the inning. In the eighth, with the tying run aboard, Moreland reacted quickly to stop and scoop Ben Zobrist's low liner, taking away extra bases. "He's really improving," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He's getting there. He deserves a ton of credit for it. His hands are better because he's improv...

If we learn anything from the below video is that you don't mess with Fox Sports reporter Emily Jones when she is doing a live shot. Emily was doing a dugout reporter during the Rangers/Rays game on Wednesday and had her report interrupted by Nelson Cruz placing his glove on the camera. Soon, Emily got her revenge by spraying Nelson with a water bottle: Your browser does...

Rangers' Oswalt knew weeks ago he cleared waivers

Roy Oswalt says he has known for several weeks that he cleared waivers, a move that would allow the Texas Rangers to trade the veteran right-hander to any team. Oswalt said Tuesday he didn't know much about the process and has been given no indication if he would be dealt to another team. Since joining Texas on June 23, Oswalt is 4-2 with a 5.94 ERA in 11 games. He is no longer...

Rangers can’t finish sweep of Rays

I think the Rangers are allergic to sweeping.  Or maybe they just want to lull the rest of the league into submission.  I don’t know, but I’d like to see more sweeps.  Sweeps are fun. But apparently my boys don’t enjoy them.  Scott Feldman spoiled the one of Minnesota on Sunday, and Matt Harrison did the damage in tonight’s game against the Rays. It really just wasn...

Rested bullpen is key to Rangers' plans

All season, the Texas Rangers' bullpen has been an extreme asset for the club. The team is taking every precaution to insure that advantage exists deep into the playoffs. By adding pitchers, giving others extended rest and by being judicious with everybody's usage, the Rangers enter their series with the Cleveland Indians on Friday with just 105 relief innings since the...

ARLINGTON, Texas Rangers pitcher Roy Oswalt told local reporters Tuesday he's been aware he had cleared waivers for several weeks. Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com reported earlier in the day that Oswalt cleared waivers and suggested the Dodgers as a potential trade partner. Oswalt did not express desire to be traded, but he's made no secret that he is not happy being in...

Rangers-Indians Preview

The Texas Rangers are coming off a much-needed day off. Facing the rested AL West leaders is the last thing the Cleveland Indians need. The Rangers' Ryan Dempster looks for a third straight impressive start Friday night as he tries to extend the Indians' longest home losing streak of 2012. Coming off a 7-3 stretch in Arlington, Texas (77-53) begins its 10-game trip with...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Evan Longoria homered twice, Tampa Bay roughed up Matt Harrison and the Rays beat the Texas Rangers 8-4 Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak. It’s widely known that the Los Angeles Dodgers are searching for more starting pitching. According to Jon Heyman there’s one pitcher that the team isn’t that high on and that’s Roy Oswalt. A couple months ago Oswalt was someone that was highly sought after unfortunately that changed once he started to pitch. @JonHeymanCBS: #dodgers person didnt seem that enthused about...
