For the past four years, Dan Warthen has been at the reins for the pitching staff of the New York Mets…. and that needs to change. Despite inconsistencies in performance nearly every season, Warthen still remains the longest tenured man on the Mets coaching staff. John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, Livan Hernandez, Tim Redding; the list of failed Mets under Dan Warthen have just continued to mount. It took him nearly two months to realize that Pelfrey was changing his delivery too much between a breaking ball and fastball, leading to his slump in mid-2010. It took him about three or four shaky starts from Santana last year to figure out that he was tipping his pitches by holding his glove too far away from his body. Isn’t that what the video tapes are for? Isn’t it his job to pick up on stuff like that sooner rather than later? Not to mention the young pitchers have not exactly been the definition of consistent throughout his tenure. Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, a...

NJ Mayor: Jose Reyes embodies the problems of our youth (Oh, okay…)

The guys over at Mets Police found an article written by Bridgeton, NJ Mayor Albert B. Kelley, which basically explains how Jose Reyes embodies the problems of our youth, which, by the way, is complete BS. Read my opinion on the subject at the bottom of this post. Here is an excerpt from the article on NJ.com: “…Whatever it is, I think we need to challenge our young...

Catching Up With the New York Mets (Bay, Pitchers and New Dimensions)

I wanted to first address the lack of posts recently, and the lack of quality writing in September. I started my career as a teacher this year in Newark, NJ, so in the last few months I moved from Baltimore to Newark (now sorta in Mets territory!), and started a very difficult but rewarding job. If any of you know first year teachers, you know that the first year is a crazy amount...

Article/Video: Bullpen upgrade key for Mets

Click below to see Adam Rubin of ESPN New York explain the Mets bullpen situation: Here’s an excerpt from an article that Rubin wrote, which you can check out here: “If Reyes leaves because of a superior offer elsewhere, which is the more likely scenario, additional dollars are freed up to allocate to pitching. The Mets want to keep the payroll in the $100 million to...

Opinion: Omar Minaya’s Biggest Mistake (Not Oliver Perez)

I just finished watching the movie The Team. The Time. The 2006 Mets for the 10th time since Carlos Beltran watched Adam Wainwright’s curveball hit the catcher’s mitt without swinging, recording the final out of Game 7 of the 2006 National League Championship Series. I keep thinking back on that season, thinking of the quotes from players, fans, and the media–all...

Mets 360: Type B Free-Agent Closers and the Mets

As The Game Evolves, So Do The Fans

I was 4 years old when the 1986 Mets won the World Series. My memories of that team are re-created by old school videos of myself with my siblings and cousins cheering “Lets Go Mets… YEAH!” at the dinner table for my sister’s 1st birthday party. The earliest Halloween memory I have is of my mother sewing myself and my 2 older brothers Mets uniforms for us. My oldest brother...

eMail Q&A, pres. by Citi: Should the Mets trade Johan?

Rob from Long Island sent in an e-mail saying: “This may seem a little far fetched and probably unpopular, but what are your thoughts on the Mets offering Johan Santana to the Yankees? I’m not sure what he’d bring in return, but I know they would be willing to part with Jesus Montero and a pitching prospect in return for top-end pitching. Would that be enough? I...

When Will It Be Our Time?

I was born on January 10th, 1988. Just about 14 months or so after the Mets won the World Series and to this date, the last one won by the team since then. I became a Mets fan in 1999 and havent looked back, taking the good and the bad, hoping the team can finally win a world championship. I have never seen one of my teams win a championship, ever. I dont count the 1994 Rangers,...

Real Dirty: Are Oswalt and Lidge options for the Mets?

"A Ground Ball Trickling...

...It's a fair ball. It gets by Buckner! Rounding third is Knight...The Mets will win the ballgame...They win! They win!"~ The Late, Great Bob Murphy ~ Is it really 25 years? Yes it is. Twenty five years ago tonight was possibly the greatest comeback in World Series history. Two down, no one on, the Mets trailing by two, down three games to two.Who out there (who was alive...
