Via Philliedelphia:
Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels has been a father of two for the last few years, but today (technically since Dec. 24) Hamels is a father of three.
Hamels and his wife Heidi have adopted a baby girl, Reeve, from Ethiopia. Reeve, who was abandoned at birth, was found by Ethiopian police in a field and was later taken to an orphanage where Hamels and his wife adopted her.
In a story by Channel 6 ABC's Jeff Skversky, Hamels says that it's a happy moment for his family of five.
"The sense of joy overcomes anything. [There were] tears, I'm glad they were not sad tears; obviously, the most joyful, exciting tears I think I can ever shed. We're just so happy," Hamels said.
The process, which lasted about four years, did not stop Hamels and his wife from traveling to Ethiopia numerous times to finalize the adoption process.
"It's very, very time consuming, obviously worth it in the end; it's not nine months like a biological child, so, I don't know, I feel like I've been waiting on her my whole life," Heidi said.
The couple told Action News that they plan to keep their family growing and will not hesitate to adopt a child from Ethiopia again.
Congratulations to Cole and Heidi, who are parents yet again.

How cool is this, more athletes should take a cue from Hamels and his lovely wife Heidi. He makes great money and is choosing to do something good and compassionate with it. My wife has an uncle who's wife was never able to have children of her own. He owned gas stations in NY and is an extremely wealthy man, but do you think they chose to adopt and give an orphaned child a chance in life...No!! they did not, and shame on them for that. Karma will eventually take care of them. It will also bless Cole and Heidi.

great move and more athletes should get invloved but why go so far. i don't uderstand when these folks that are the so called elite the celebs they have to go 10,000 miles to adopt. if the adoption process is so hard here then they should use there influence to make some changes to make it easier to adopt american children. every child world wide needs a home and to be loved but lets clean up some things that maybe wrong here with the process.
