Daniel Murphy is probably much better suited to play a corner infield spot than any other posistion on the diamond. First base is probably his best position, but with Ike Davis returing the Mets need to find a way to get his bat in the lineup. That gaping hole happens to be Second base, and that is just where Daniel will get his shot to play every day this season.
Last season the Mets gave him some reps in Spring Training, but it never really felt like he got a real shot to win the job. They had selected Brad Emaus in the rule 5 draft, and it seemed as though they had already made up their mind that they wanted to him to start at second before camp even opened. Murphy seemed to be the guy they wanted to be the first bat off the bench, and so that was just what happened.
Murphy's 2011 Statistics
Ike’s season ending injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we got to see Murphy play everyday and perform like everyone said he could. His numbers last season w...

Jon Niese gets a nose job thanks to Carlos Beltran
Before Carlos Beltran was traded to the San Francisco Giants last July, he playfully told New York Mets left-hander Jon Niese, "Hey, we need to get you a new nose."
Beltran offered to pay. Now he might be finding a bill in the mail soon, according to Niese.
Originally motivated by aesthetics, Niese got a nose job in October.
"He wanted me to have a new nose...
Using fWAR to project the Mets’ record in 2011 and 2012
At Mets360 we hold these truths to be self-evident:
•That proper statistical evaluation is essential to understanding how baseball games are won and lost
•That the stats that are available today are superior to the ones available in the 1950s for this purpose
•That there is no one perfect stat to evaluate players
The closest we have to a perfect stat is WAR, which attempts...
Will Mets Regret Not Adding A Starter?
With Mets pitchers and catchers set to report later this morning, lets take a look at a couple of things Sandy Alderson said over the weekend when he spoke to reporters in St. Lucie.
I was a little taken back by what he said when he was asked where he’d like to see the team do better?
“Well, just in a general sense, we need to pitch better than we did last year. The...
Jon Niese got a nose job after Carlos Beltran teased him, has lost 10 pounds since
Mets pitcher Jon Niese reported to spring training with a new look this week. Yup, Niese got a nose job and says he’s lost 10 pounds since getting it done because his breathing is now improved. But the reason he got it done is the best part.
Niese says former teammate Carlos Beltran teased him last season and offered to pay for the procedure if Neise got it done. The pitcher...
Pitchers and Catchers report: The Latest on Santana:Mets Spring TV schedule
Welcome to the first official day of spring training. At least for today Met fans need to show optimism. Yes the team didnt do much this odd off season besides patch a couple of holes in the bullpen and bring in the walls for the whiny Wright and the lost Bay. Still you have to show optimism to begin the season. Otherwise doom and gloom will make it a very long season.

Angels sign RHP Isringhausen to minor league deal
Veteran right-hander Jason Isringhausen has agreed to a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
The 39-year-old Isringhausen agreed to the deal Wednesday.
He went 3-3 with a 4.05 ERA while pitching in 53 games for the New York Mets last season, his 15th in the majors.
Isringhausen is third among active players with 300 career saves despite missing most of the 2009 season...
Mets' Niese gets nose job at Beltran suggestion
Mets pitcher Jon Niese got a nose job in the offseason.
Lutz doesn't draw a good number...
I like the numbers game, I don't know why and I even understand that it's generally absolutely meaningless. But I find it interesting what players get what numbers, does Josh Satin with #3 have any greater chance of making the team then Reese Havens at #75. We've heard of players paying for lucky numbers and others keeping their first spring training number instead of...
Mets' Tejada remains in Panama while trying to obtain visa
Terry Collins knows that Ruben Tejada is not late. He also knows that the young man who will replace Jose Reyes has already impressed with hustle and precocious baseball instincts. The manager even called himself “selfish” for wishing that Tejada was already in Port St. Lucie. But still, despite all those qualifications, Collins’ visceral desire remains: He wants Tejada in camp, now.
Davey Says Nats Have More Gifted Athletes Than 83-84 Mets
This, from Adam Rubin:
Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson was asked whether the current Nationals team, with young stars such as Stephen Strasburg, reminds him of the 1983-84 Mets, who were a couple of years away from winning a World Series.
“This club has more potential than that club,” Johnson replied Monday at Nationals camp in Viera. “It just has...
2012 MLB Draft: Early Mock Has Mets Taking A LHP
With the college baseball season kicking off last night what better time to make my first mock draft than right now? With the volatility with baseball prospects I wouldn’t be surprised if 90% of these projections turn out to be wrong and that a small portion of them will fall out of the first round conversation by the time draft day comes around. Nonetheless, it is a good...
