Nationals-stephen
Stephen Strasburg hasn't gotten off to the start he'd hoped, though the Washington Nationals haven't exactly been lighting things up for him offensively. The slumping Nationals will try to provide Strasburg with some rare support Thursday night when he looks to end the longest winless drought of his career against a San Diego Padres team that has been tough to beat at Petco Park. While its starters have done very well with a 1.82 ERA, Washington (21-19) has lost four of five thanks mainly to an offense that has averaged 2.0 runs and hit .207 with 46 strikeouts in those games. The Nationals are also 6 for 45 (.133) with runners in scoring position over that span after going hitless in nine chances during a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Adam LaRoche provided their only run over the past 22 innings with a solo homer in the fourth. "I don't know if they were trying to do too much instead of just hitting the ball and putting it in play," ...

Stephen Strasburg Earns First Win Since Opening Day

Stephen Strasburg can breathe a little easier now. With a 6-2 victory against the San Diego Padres on Thursday night, Strasburg garnered his second victory of the season, his first since opening day on April 1. The Washington starter worked eight innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out four. This was the first time in Strasburg’s major league career...

Update: Bryce Harper's hair is on fire tonight

And so, despite pain in his abdomen after crashing into that pesky wall at Dodger Stadium, Bryce Harper is back in the Nationals lineup Thursday and back to "playing like his hair is on fire". In his first AB, he grounded into a fielder's choice and attempted to take second with his helmet flying off on a bad throw to first. He was gunned down, but not for lack of hustle...

No concussion for Bryce Harper, Mike Rizzo still wants him to play "100 miles an hour with his hair on fire"

And so, in spite of Bryce Harper saying he felt "carsick" on Tuesday after his crash into the right field wall at Dodger Stadium Monday night, the Nats are apparently confident that he doesn't have a concussion. Meanwhile, the debate rages about whether or not Harper plays the game too hard, hard enough, or just plain stupid. Here's Nats GM Mike Rizzo weighing...

Video: Senator Harry Reid discusses Bryce Harper running into wall on Senate floor

It's fairly well documented that Senator Harry Reid -- who shares the home state of Nevada with Bryce Harper -- is a big Bryce Harper fan. Exhibit A: Reid invoked Harper's "That's a clown question, bro" line at a press conference last summer. So it should come as no surprise that Reid discussed the injury Harper suffered after running into that wall at Dodger...

Nationals’ Jayson Werth suffers setback

The Washington Nationals were expecting to get outfielder Jayson Werth back from the disabled list on Saturday, but this will likely be pushed back a few days as the slugger has experienced a setback during his rehab, according to Amanda Comak of The Washington Times. As expected after Wilson Ramos exited Wednesday night's game, the Washington Nationals have placed the injury-prone catcher on the disabled list.  Ramos was on the DL earlier in the season with a strain to the same area of his hamstring he strained Wednesday.  The team expects this injury to take some time now that Ramos has re-injured it. Bryan Kerr of MASN says the team...

Bryce Harper and the Dodger Stadium Wall

Anyone who has read this blog knows that what I’m about to write about Bryce Harper certainly isn’t because I’m just being a ‘hater’. I was watching live last night when Bryce Harper ran into the wall. I played baseball long enough to know that when I watch that picture above and see the play, I wonder why he doesn’t feel the warning track under him. I wonder why there’s...

Fans Playing Catch With Players Seems To Be a New Trend

Gio Gonzalez must have seen the video of Hyun-Jin Ryu playing catch with a young fan this week, because he joined in on the fun as well.
