Washington Nationals third base coach Bo Porter used some acrobatics to avoid an errant throw to third by the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing Bryce Harper to score a run for the Nationals during the first inning of Wednesday night's game in D.C..
With no outs and Bryce Harper on second base for the Nationals, Ryan Zimmerman hit a fielder's choice to Rays shortstop Elliot Johnson. Harper ran to third and Johnson threw to third to get him, but third baseman Sean Rodriguez couldn't handle the throw.
Porter was watching the close play at third while down on his knees in the coach's box, but quickly sprung up and jumped out of the way. That move allowed the ball to roll all the way to dugout and Harper was able to run home and score a run. Had Porter not moved so quickly, Rodriguez probably could have tracked down the ball and Harper would have stayed at third.
Johnson was given an error on the play, and that run proved critical in the end as the Nationals won the game 3-2.
