On the 10th anniversary of the 2003 Chicago Cubs season-ending defeat to the Florida Marlins in Game 7 of the NLCS, Comcast SportsNet wil air a documentary about that memorable season highlighted by the Steve Bartman game. It’s entitled “5 Outs” and has a running time of 90-minutes.
“Catching Hell” by ESPN films was excellent. It focused on Bartman, and his whole backstory. It was such an excellent film that CSN’s offering has a lot to live up to. 5 Outs will prominently feature the Bartman game, but will focus more on the Cubs team than Steve Bartman.
With 88 wins that year, the Cubs edged out the Houston Astros by one game to win the NL Central, which was the team’s first division title in 14 years (1989). They then faced an Atlanta Braves team that had the best record in all of the NL (101-61) in the NLDS…the Cubs were a long shot at best to beat them, but they did. The Braves are traditionally even bigger chokers than the Cubs, if that’s possible.
