The Victory Formation:
New Era is hit or miss with the special edition hats, but this latest one giving honor to the greatest relief pitcher of all-time, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, is classy. Rivera, of course, is set to retire at season’s end. You don’t have to be a Yankees fan to appreciate the gold touch they give to the hat, as presented by Hardball Talk’s Craig Calcaterra. It even arrived to him in a pretty fancy pinstripe box. Yes, I am a Yankee fan, but no, that’s not why I like it. I actually hate every single hat New Era has made that isn’t just the actual navy blue one with the white insignia. But this one is a cool touch. I probably wouldn’t wear it, but it would be a cool collector’s item. ESPN Business Insider Darren Rovell put a picture out of a different hat: That’s ugly. The smaller batch on the back is much nicer. I don’t know which one or if it is both, but it will be available to the public next week.

New York Yankees corner infielder Kevin Youkilis underwent
back surgery yesterday, and the procedure “went well,” according to the surgeon
that performed the operation, Dr. Robert Watkins. When it was announced that the surgery was required, the Yankees said it would sideline Youkilis for 10 to
12 weeks, but general manager Brian Cashman admitted to reporters – including...

Many New York Yankees fans seem to want to ignore the reality of what is going on over in the Bronx.
That is the Yankees are falling apart.
Typical slump time for a contending team is just about up, and the Yankees seem to be progressively getting worse.
Here are some daunting facts that all of us have to face: ...
Derek Jeter is back at Yankee Stadium, though he's still not sure when he'll be playing there next.
The New York captain temporarily relocated his rehab from Tampa, Fla., to the Bronx as he recovers from his broken left ankle. He said before Saturday's game against the Rays that he wanted to ''break things up'' and be around the team.
He was taking batting...
The steps in his recovery seem to be coming much quicker now. Derek Jeter has progressed from hitting off a tee and doing some light soft toss to hitting in the cage and staking batting practice now. The veteran shortstop had not taken batting practice since suffering a re-fracture of his surgically-repaired ankle.
Derek Jeter took batting practice today down in Tampa for...
For all of those New York Yankees fans who thought signing Robinson Cano to a contract extension was a slam-dunk after the All-Star joined forces with Yankees-loving Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports, think again.
CBS Sports is reporting that second baseman Robinson Cano and the Yankees are far apart on terms of a contract extension, making it increasingly likely that Cano will head...

Phil Hughes has been pretty awful for the New York Yankees.
Through the first month of the 2013 season, Hughes looked like a very good pitcher. Though he’d only produced one win, he had just one start in which he gave up more than three earned runs. His HR/9 rate looked as though it might be under control and he had a five start stretch where he...
The daughter of former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre is getting props from her dad for catching a baby who had tumbled off a second-floor fire escape in Brooklyn.
Torre said in a statement Wednesday that he is ''very proud of my daughter Cristina's actions today during an incident in Brooklyn involving a small child.'' Torre is now Major League Baseball...
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told
reporters – including Mark Feinsand of The New York Daily News – that center
fielder Curtis Granderson had the pin removed from his broken left hand
Following the procedure, Granderson is now slated to do a
strengthening program for a week or so before he picks up a bat. He’ll then
have to go through...
After a split against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees continue their homestand against the Tampa Bay Rays starting tonight. The pitching match-up features a pair of lefties – veteran Andy Pettitte and young phenom Matt Moore. Joe Girardi has decided to move Jayson Nix to third and Reid Brignac to short, stating that he wants the best defensive left side of the infield possible...

This year has not been pretty for the Yankees. Considering the team they have had to field most of the season, they have actually been very successful. Nearly every Yankee “regular” has gotten injured and missed time this year. One of the more notable is Derek Jeter, not only because of his stature in the game, the fact that he is the Captain and...
Andy Pettitte (5-4, 3.95 ERA) squares off against Matt Moore (8-3, 4.12 ERA) and the Tampa Bay Rays in the first game of four. Pettitte will look to get back on track against the Rays after allowing four runs and a season high 11 hits against the Angels Friday. Since coming off the DL he has been inconsistent, allowing nine runs in 19 innings.
If Pettitte can hand the ball over to...
His day done, Zoilo Almonte stood in a corner of the Yankees'
clubhouse and pulled out a cellphone. As his teammates showered up,
got dressed and left, the rookie lingered in his dirt-smudged
uniform, talking away., http://juicedsportsblog.com/sports-news/news/rookie-leads-yanks-past-rays
When New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano dropped
agent Scott Boras in favor of another group – which included rapper Jay-Z – there
was thought that an agreement on a contract extension would soon follow. However,
this hasn’t been the case, and Jon Heyman of CBS Sports notes that it’s clear the
sides are nowhere near a deal at this point.
Since becoming the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, Jason Kidd has done the usual public speaking/press conferences but back on Wednesday night, he got the chance to throw out the first pitch at Yankees Stadium.
Before the start of the Yankees/Dodgers, Kidd and his son Noah took to the Yankees Stadium mound and J-Kidd delivered a pretty good first pitch:
