After an 11-3 drubbing, where the Atlanta Braves did all their damage in the first three innings, the Mets have something to play for for the rest of the 2009 season.
Their pride.
Sure, they're not going to win any titles.
Sure, they're the most expensive fourth-place team in the history of the game.
But that doesn't mean they should lose embarrassingly like the way they were last night.
Thanks to some solid work by the bullpen, who held the hot out-of-the-gate Braves hitless for the final seven innings of the game, the damage was limited.
If they performed as well as the starting pitching, the game might still be going on out in Flushing as I type.
It's a test of manhood at this point.
Sure, there's got to be some sort of drop-off in intensity when you're playing in games that mean nothing. Anyone can understand that to a point.
But you have to show some sort of fight in the field, or your stands will empty, your TV ratings will dro...
