(Photo credit: Wikipedia) The New York Yankees have been noticeably without out-fielding speedster Brett Gardner for the last week. Gardner made a dynamic, diving catch last Tuesday night, which resulted in him injuring his right arm and being put on the 15-day DL immediately following an MRI that revealed it was bruise and strained elbow. According to skipper Joe Girardi the elbow was good news, as at first glance it was thought to be his wrist. “We thought it was his wrist at first, which came up a little bit sore but he landed right [on his elbow] and it got tucked under. The big thing is that we don’t have a setback — that the first time he swings, he doesn’t feel it.” The latest update is that Gardner feels good and he hopes to back on the field immediately following his DL stint on May 3, when the Bombers will be in Kansas City to fact the Royals for ...

Yankees hold Pudge in highest esteem

ARLINGTON, Texas There's no doubt about how Ranger fans fell about now retired catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. That affinity for the 10-time Gold Glove backstop was more than apparent before Monday's series opener with the New York Yankees. But some say the true mark of a player's impact has on the game is in what his peers say about him. And like the fans...

Prospect Watch: Christian Garcia, Shaeffer Hall, and Zoilo Almonte

I made a trip out to Trenton this past Saturday for a rare 5:05 start to watch the Thunder play host to the Washington Nationals Double-A affiliate, Harrisburg Senators. Some seasons have seen Thunder manager Tony Franklin blessed with tremendous pitching staffs with zero hitting, and other seasons have seen him write in a tremendous lineup while wondering if his pitchers can limit...

Michael Pineda Diagnosed With Torn Labrum

According to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, Michael Pineda has been diagnosed with an “anterior labral tear”, and surgery is set for May 1st. Compared to elbow surgery, which has become almost routine at this point, recoveries from shoulder problems have not gone nearly as well. Since we don’t know the extent of the tear, it is impossible to say that this is the worst case scenario...

John Paul Morosi just wrote a piece breaking down the Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda trade . Now we are certain the Seattle Mariners are ahead in the deal, at least for 2012. Where does Pudge Rodriguez stand in history?

The sports news cycle is always an interesting one. Today, Pudge Rodriguez officially announced his retirement from baseball. Like most modern players, you get the idea that he could play and wanted to play, but teams are becoming more and more skittish about adding aging veterans to their squad. Part of that is the increasing money involved and part of that is as old...
