Tim Stauffer makes another rehab start with the Storm, but the Storm’s offense struggles in a 5-1 loss. Jace Peterson, and Mike Gallic contribute greatly to a 7-3 win for Fort Wayne, and the entire Eugene offense had a productive night as they blow out the Bears 12-4.Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jace Peterson/Mike Gallic Pitching Prospect of the Day: Frank GarcesTucson Padres:...

Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-9-12

It was a rough night for the Padres’ minor league affiliates as every team that played lost. Adys Portillo continued his struggles in the Texas League, and the Emeralds offense was shut down for the 2nd night in a row. Despite home runs from Justin Miller and Austin Hedges, both Lake Elsinore and Fort Wayne lose by 2.Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jeudy Valdez Pitching Prospect of...

Padres Blank Cubbies Twice In Three Game Sweep at Petco.

The Padres welcomed in Jed Hoyer and his Chicago Cubs to Petco Park this weekend and thanked them like any host should; with a three game sweep capped with a shutout on top. The Padres beat the Cubs by 2-0, 7-4, and again 2-0, the latter a five-hit shutout by Clayton Richard. The sweep gave them five wins on this short six-game home stand and 10 wins in their last 12 played at Petco...

Richard fires rare home shutout for Padres

Left-hander Clayton Richard on Wednesday pitched the second complete-game shutout ever by a San Diego Padre at Petco Park -- and the second in three weeks. Richard allowed five hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out five as the Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 2-0 to complete a three-game sweep. He threw 110 pitches, with 71 going for strikes, and he got 11 groundball...

MLB Insiders: San Diego Padres

The Pirates open a three-game series with San Diego on Friday night at PNC Park. Right-hander James McDonald will be on the hill for the Bucs. The Padres will counter with Edinson Volquez.

It wasn't but a few days ago that the Padres designated Kip Wells for assignment and recalled Eric Stults. As of last night, I think the move has really paid off. Stults, along with the bullpen, shut down the Cubs and en route to a 2-0 win for the Padres. Anthony Rizzo made his return to the Petco for the first time since being traded, and he did exactly what he did while he...

Padres not throwing in the towel, but throwing money around

Last Monday, the Padres were officially sold ... we think. The sale to a group that headed by the heirs to the O'Malley family of Dodger fame, professional golfer Phil Mickelson and San Diego businessman/civic leader Ron Fowler is final pending the approval of the other major league owners, a vote that could come as early as next Thursday. But the new Padres' ownership...

MadFriars' Player of the Month: July

In Tucson Jedd Gyorko continues to produce and Nate Freiman is nothing but steady in San Antonio. Tommy Medica is opening some eyes for the Storm and Kyle Gaedele is starting to show some of the tools that got him drafted. In short-season ball some late round draft picks are opening some eyes.

That game was pretty fun to watch last night, but so has most Padres baseball as of late. What I really liked though was that we were hitting with runners in scoring position again, which is always a nice asset to have during any game. The team went 4-10 last night with RISP, which is a respectable number compared to their season average. The only nervous part to the game was in...

Mickelson: I won't meddle in Padres

Don't worry, San Diego, Phil Mickelson promises to leave the Padres' baseball decisions to the baseball people. Mickelson is part of an ownership group that includes former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley that recently agreed to purchase the San Diego Padres. The deal must be approved by Major League Baseball. Mickelson spoke Thursday after the opening round...

If only these Padres were playing the same way at the beginning of the season, then we could be looking at a potential playoff run. Unfortunately though, they dug a huge hole that they won't be able to get themselves out of. They did, however, return the favor to the Cubs from back in May. The Cubs swept us in Wrigley, and the Padres did just that in the latest series here at...

Padres 7, Cubs 4

Padres 7, Cubs 4. Updates. With AP Photos. Carlos Quentin hit a three-run homer, Ross Ohlendorf pitched effectively into the seventh inning and the San Diego Padres ruined Brooks Raley's major league debut Tuesday night with a 7-4 victory over the floundering Chicago Cubs. Chase Headley and Everth Cabrera each drove in two runs for San Diego, which has won eight of 10 at home...

MadFriars' Farm Report August 7

Robbie Erlin and 2 other pitchers combine to do what the San Diego Padres have never done... throw a no hitter.

Padres-Pirates Preview

Based on how they've performed at PNC Park coupled with San Diego's play on the road, the Pittsburgh Pirates should be able to end their lengthy home losing streak to the Padres. Of course, if scheduled starter James McDonald's struggles continue, another defeat could be imminent. McDonald again hopes to break out of his second-half funk and help the Pirates avoid losing...

Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-6-12

It was a good night for bats in the upper levels of the Padres farm system. Hermida and Belnome hit a 3-run shot and a grand slam respectively to help the Padres when a shootout, and the Missions blew out the RoughRiders as Freiman stays hot.
